A zip line? what is this Batman... this renders the whole parkour and scaling of building pointless and eliminates one of the fundamental playing mechanices of the game. Also, invisibility skills - seriously? God, this franchise just keeps going down hill and people still keep lapping it up. Sad really...

it doesn't render it pointless, you still do it once you're wherever you zipped to... it just makes for faster travel across what are far FAR wider streets (due to coaches being prevalent on london streets as opposed to past games where they were narrow) i'm actually thankful they took it into consideration tbh. rather then just make the streets artificially narrower then they should be for the time period.

Fair enough but I am referring to the vercatility aspect of the parkour. If I can zip my way to the top of a building, what's the point anymore?

The formula for this game is very tired and they felt they needed to do this to frenshen it up, destroying in the process one of its fundamental aspects.... but hey they will keep milking it to death anyway... I remember buying revelations when it hit the bargain bins and I threw it in disgust after a couple of hours in.... this franchise is the one responsible for killing both Beyond Good and Evil 2 and Prince of Persia...

can't say i miss the later after the POS that was POP08 and whatever it was called after that, but it is a tired formula by this point. i just buy the ones with the eras that appeal the most. since the first game that's been pirates (black flag), french revolution (unity) and it'll be victorian era london too (syndicate) and if they do a western theme and a japanese samura theme i'll be all over those too...lol.

as for getting up building faster i'm all for it. that was the tedious part of past games. just holding a trigger while you slowly climbed a building. the "good" bits were when you were running across rooftops, jumping gaps. finding good lines through a city and that's still there...it was never really the part where you mistime a jump and have to find a climbable wall to get back up. plus it may be context sensitive? essentially a replacement to those rope launchers from the last few games?

I really liked PoP08 but The Forgotten Sands was PooP.

As for vertical building in AC, The thing I enjoyed most was figuring out how to climb up the tallest buildings. Now I can just zip myself to the top - it defeats the purpose in my opinion. I accept the fact that it makes it fast and exhilarating to do that when you are running around on top of buildings but it takes away the danger and thrill that comes from fearing to fall.

i can't imagine you'll be able to do it for the likes of big ben lol. so that "challenge" (lets be honest, you really just held a trigger and pressed forward on the left stick) will still be there. it'll just potentially alleviate the annoyance of getting back up to the rooftops if you fall off in persuit or just getting around... assuming it isn't context sensitive (maybe only certain grapple points let you do it? i dunno)

So they brought back the old post-kill death sequence. I have no idea why they changed it in Unity where (for reasons unexplained) Dorian could gain the memories of who he's killed.

But at the same time, they've butchered one of the core fundamentals of Assassin's Creed which is parkour and free-running. The zipline just defeats that purpose. In my opinion, they should have the zipline in limited quantity and the player must purchase more when they run out. That way, the game just doesn't become a zipline fest.

I used to be a mega fan of Assassin's Creed. But Unity proved to me that Ubisoft doesn't care much anymore. Black Flag was the last decent AC game.

AI is as usually dumb as fuck... srsly game would be much better if AI was somehow realistic.

so after finally watching the footage. i can kinda see where people are coming from, but it seems to have limited range, and once you're on wall you can't use it. so there will still be plenty of climbing as shown in the video. it's just a new means to get around a far larger scaled world. even reminded me of the excellent batman grapple hook!

i mean, we're used to cities in AC being compact, pre industrial revolution era narrow streets and close knit housing. were your means of transport were horse...and....erm...horse. where a small hop can get you across an entire street....london at this time was quite different. if anything streets were wider. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Wms3Q58hZss/UEfTnSZ833I/AAAAAAAAAe0/DWYQfYbbBLA/s1600/IndRev.png i think something needed to be done to combat that. and a grapple hook seems the best way to go about it and opens up gameplay and approach more in the process.

now. what i didn't like was the invisibility. that is stupid as all hell and make no sense in regard to era or a persons skill set or anything. better at pickpocketing, sure. being able to hide in plain site in certain areas like benches etc, i can go for that. being able to just crouch there in the middle of the street and go all predator though is just dumb

What in the world are they doing to this game? The previous one pretty much destroyed the franchise's appeal with its bugs and now gameplay mechanics alone seem to have the same effect.

Evere since Unity, it feels like the franchise doesn't exist. There was interest even on Black Flag, now it's like a random indie game.

I realised with Unity that Ubisoft no longer cares about the franchise. The fact they almost nearly scrapped the future storyline shows they just want to keep making Assassin's Creed forever. The story has become trash.

When I thought of London as a setting in AC, I wasn't thinking Gangs of New York or Spider-Man, I was thinking of gritty streets, rats, flees, assassinating someone in a dark dirty alley way. Jack the Ripper.

I think I'm buying this.

Can I play the entire campaign as not her brother?

After the last AC Unity game with all of its bugs, I'm done. This one can end up being a masterpiece and I still will not buy it. It looks like they took the same engine and set pieces and updated the time line. Time to move one from AC. They have officially killed this series for me. No mas!

The game I will be playing in this era (somewhat) will be Dishonored 2. Not this crap. If you are excited for this game, great, I'm not knocking your hype.

Agree with you so much!
Visuals and colors was nice, but damn was it so fucking boring and repetitive. POP08 that is, i never bothered with anything after that.

i think that's more to do with the vast majority not wanting it to be in there from day one. it's surprising how badly received that stuff was both concept wise (the notion of inherited memories) and gameplay wise (it was shit). not to mention desmonds story arch went completely off the rails and then they just killed him off. the present day stuff is coming back for this though, which is a good thing imo. how good it'll be who knows. but without the skills/memory bleed aspect i'd expect it to be more akin to black flags present day content rather then desmonds.
