Looks so underwhelming. Honestly. It looks kinda bad. Blurry low quality ambient occlusion and a really low level of detail in terms of both the environments and character models. The scaling of them that is. Up close they look good, but at just a bit of a distance...ugh. I want to see how Halo 3 and 4 stack up.

Really? It looks fine. There's only so much you can do while sticking with the original game underneath.
In some ways I kind of expect Halo 3 to look the worst of the bunch, because it's just higher resolution and framerate for that one. This looks better than a fair number of current gen games which is impressive for a game that is basically a shell over an original Xbox game.

h1 anniversary and h4 are also just running in higher fps and res. it's only h2 that's getting the remake treatment. and it looks decent but I did expect it to look better.
h1a on 360 looked great. didn't seem scaled back running the original engine in the background. and the engine will be even less of an impact on the x1. so really I would expect it to look better
