Grand Theft Auto V eventually shipped a few days ago and everyone is playing at the moment, as proven by the press release sent by Take-Two Interactive claming that the game has achieved worldwide retail sales of more than $1 billion during its first three days on sale. To celebrate their success, we decided to show you another side of GTA with a series of pictures we took with one of the characters' cell phone. A peaceful moment we spent just enjoying the scenery, the wonders of Los Santos countryside and the passing of time. You should try it, it's a welcome break from all the shooting and robbing.
Update: Animated gif created with the images we posted.
Update 2: Added a timelapse video.

Game looks pretty impressive for the consoles its on. Still hard to believe they did this much with almost 10 year old hardware. As much as I'd like to play it, I'm really trying to hold out until a PC or next gen version arrives so I can truly enjoy it and not always be thinking about how much better this or that could be...

i don't think that should stop you from picking it up. i am PC gamer all the way, haven't touched my consoles since Red Dead Redemption, but I picked this up on the PS3 and as much as I thought it could be better you seriously don't care when you start playing. the gameplay itself is insanely fun and the graphics are amazing enough (even by PC standards) to keep you from ever feeling like you wasted money on a console version of it.

that is just my opinion of course, i just feel though that waiting for a unannounced PC version for an amazing game that is out right now would be a bit hard for me to do after actually playing it. imma pick it up on PC though anyways, cause even though im going to play this into the ground i know the modding on it will make it new again

Yeah, I'm definitely tempted, and if I didn't have a lot going on right now I would be picking it for sure. Luckily though I'm pretty busy right now so I wouldn't have much time to put into it anyway. I know I would still love the game, but I just think I will enjoy it that much more on pc or next gen.....

I'll wait until the PC release to think about getting it. Not really that interested in it, no matter how much circle jerking surrounds it. Also, DOW reported $800 Million in sales of the game, that doesn't mean actual client purchases MSRP, but retail/digital distributions. And I'm not sure what it has to do with the quality of the game, though it does say something about the success of it and certainly the generation of gamers.

$60/800m = 13.3 million purchases. That is a lot. I think it's safe to say GTA is pop-culture.

The game looks gorgeous, plenty of details here and there, big draw distance, great lighting and very good models for a sandbox running on PS360. I´m still surprised with the ocean water recreation, It looks almost real. Yesterday, I finished a mision near the beach, and then, I saw a beautifull sunset at the sea. Just marvelous.

The game looks good but I don't think it looks gorgeous. It is a bit better than GTA IV but that is it really. I do like the game however, but I'm curious to see what a possible GTA VI on the next-gen consoles or PC would look like. Must be impressive.

Indeed. As I said in the chatbox (that had one or two confused, and I seriously don't know why) the game is almost practically next generation. So much time and effort has went into it, and that water, like you say, impressed the shit out of me. I never thought I'd see a game this generation where it would look so good. Even the shader used on it changes colour depending on how deep the water is and where light is catching a crest of a wave. It's very impressive. But what is even more impressive is the detail and just how nice the landscape actually is. It feels like a real, living breathing place. 150 million or more spend, 6 years development. It shows. Doesn't matter how much horsepower the new consoles have. Developers will have their work cut out topping this, and that's a fact, and I'm not talking about some fancy shaders or particle effects either.

Good post Driftwood. Well said MrWhite.

People get so bent on how good games look 'if only this' or 'if only that'. Just enjoy it for what it IS dammit :)

GTAV is so massively rich in detail and atmosphere, it's fantastic.

I'm sorry, but if you say its a bit better than GTA IV, you have no clue. No offense, but i suggest you fire up the game and see how wrong you are. In terms of character and car models, lighting, details, textures and so on , it totally stomps on GTA IV. It actually tops Max Payne 3 at times with that awesome lighting and detailed character models. I am not kidding, IV looks horrible compared to this. When the sun is going down it can definitely look gorgeous or when the sun is up and you see it shining on the pavement or the shiney walls at times. At those times it really does look gorgeous. At other times you really see aliasing and stuff, but it still is damn impressive. I dont think i can return to IV anymore.

I think your post just illustrates again that this game WILL be coming out on PC and next gen consoles before the end of the year. Think about it, they put $150 million and six years into this baby with all the tech involved, they are going to want to show it off. Look at how amazing GTA IV looks now on PC with ENB and advanced shaders. Just think of GTA V with all that on a high end PC, PS4, or XBone......should be breathtaking!

Also, Rockstar are brilliant at marketing this thing. They brought in over a billion already by stating it was current gen only, and then in a month or two they announce it on PC and next gen, and get the holdouts to buy it and all the people who want to get the full next gen experience to buy it A SECOND TIME. This thing is a cash cow!

They spent 200 milion on this game, and it has a LOT of work behind. The city it´s not a copy & paste of buildings and contructions, everything is different, builded from zero and full of details (Even interiors) In the city, you see a big variety of houses, some with garden and pool, open garages with tools and objects inside, people on the balconies, companies, stores, airports, the city underground, military bases, mountains, forests, wildlife, deserts, valleys, a big variety of NPCs and cars too, bitches D, beaches with real water (and seabed) Just awesome.

amazing game. so much attention to detail and everything feels alive. I think the reason it looks so good is because Rockstar uses colours so well.

for all those holding off for the PC version don't bother waiting, i've got a pretty good spec (3570k GTX 670 etc) but i still picked this up on ps3 and to be honest this feels like its being played on a mid range PC, honestly the only benefits you'll get with the PC is a faster frame rate though no doubt you'll need a fairly high end system to get that 60 fps, it's absolutely stunning 8 year old hardware can make this game look so good.

using your logic Rockstar would have released san andreas on the 360 and ps3 but they didn't, why do you suppose that is? (it sold over 20 million on PS2).

from what i can gather Rockstar have no plans to release GTA V on the next gen consoles and would be foolish to even consider such a move so quickly after spending all that time making it for the current gen, there is no need to release GTA V on the next gen consoles for the sake of a few more fps and 4xmsaa.

A LOT of people will double dip for GTA though, and when the PC version releases, porting that to next gen hardware will take little to no time or effort. there will be licenesing costs for releasing on new consoles. and disc manufacture, but it's sales potential for next gen would be huge. i don't think people are talking about a built from the ground up version of GTAV on next gen hardware. just a PC version port. ie. way better AA, 1080p and 60fps.

same goes for dark souls 2. if there is a PC version that already takes advantage of higher res texture, better AA, higher res and faster framerates... then i see no reason next gen consoles can't have that same version ported over. the work is already done.
