Images PC

UNIGINE Corp. released a pretty nice-looking benchmark, so we decided that it was time to forget the horrible graphics engine of Aliens: Colonial Marines to see something nice. Until we have time to prepare a video (maybe even a couple on two different rigs), here is a big bunch of homemade images we captured in extreme HD quality. A first glimpse of the future?
Update 1: First video added. It was captured with all details maxed out except for AA (4x only) with the following rig: Intel Core i5, OC 3.32 GHz, 8 Go RAM, Windows 7 64, Nvidia Geforce GTX 670 Gainward OC.
Update 2: Second video added. It was captured with all details maxed out (Extreme HD preset), AA8x with the following rig: Intel Core i7 2700K OC 4.7 GHz, 16 Go RAM, Windows 8 64, 2x Nvidia Geforce GTX 680 Gainward SLI.

Looks kinda like heavily modded Skyrim. Maybe a bit better. Still has those fugly 2d tree branch textures rotating with camera...

If you mean console future...probably.
But on PC this already easily achievable(skyrim with mods).

PC future will be held back by consoles as it has been in the past few years. Games will look better than on consoles for sure, but as there are very few PC exclusives, it won't be as impressive as it could be.

I understand, that people usually think, this is not that great, but benchmark not just about graphics, but about all those hardcore calculations.....Im sure the grass, every tree leaf and just everything has its own physics etc.....But even without all those things, this looks really nice.

meh, I don't think the PC is held back because of consoles. I think the PC is held back of PC.

Well said, hahah! ^_^
Like Carmack said, most of nextgen's processing power will be wasted on FullHD. And what's that worth without AA ? "Hooray, even more edges..." so image will basically look sharper but still look shite. Still... A console's gpu will ALWAYS outperform a PC gpu of the same type (Windows ALWAYS being a PC's biggest system hog), so maybe we're even in for a little surprise with nextgen consoles, who knows...

On a full hd screen the need of aa is minimal. There are always ofcourse expentions .

@droezelke: A GF3 Ti200 couldnt handle shit on PC (in XBox = Awesomeness), a GF7 cant handle shit on PC (in PS3 = well obviously outdated by now, but handles graphics like a 8500GT). Like you said, its the unified architecture what makes it efficient.

Lighting wouldn't have saved it. Everyhthing just feels half finished. The way the aliens move even seems massively stripped down compared to that initial demo. They just run at you like they're trying to give you a hug now. It didn't look great even in the demo, but i really don't know what happened between then and retail to make it as bad as it is.

That's exactly what's been bothering me. Today's PCs have a lot capabilty to expand the developers minds about any game. Imagine an artist have been continuously forced to draw on a A4 paper for years(that should be close to represent current-gen consoles). Now imagine the same artist given larger and larger papers with more advanced tools as he progresses and finally a big streetwall to draw on.

Games could've look very different today but developers had to stuck with consoles mainly to get some money. Hell, maybe they didn't have to, given the fact that there is a big project like Star Citizen going on.

I'm not a big fan of the 'shit on the lens' gimmick. But I thought those benches were quite nice looking.

Were they capped at 60fps?

Benchmarks aren't supposed to be pretty, they are supposed to be intensive. The point of a benchmark is to measure performance. It isn't a tech demo. You want a tech demo, go to ATI or nVidia's site.

I don't get it, this looks amazing to me. I've played skyrim maxed out and it doesn't even come close. Sure I've seen some amazing modded skyrim shots but weren't those barely running at a decent framerate?

Of course, just thought of bringing up how the game's graphics could've been better since Driftwood mentioned them.

So, we agree that the GPU in a console will always be less powerful. And that it is the Unified system that delivers the power. That was my point.
Than current high end cards ? Of course, what kind of fanboy would it make me look if i'd disagree ? ^_^ My only gripe with pc is it's power dissipation, it's theoretical raw power practically goes all up in thermal energy because of it's low level of efficiency -> see Metro2033, which no doubt looked great back then, but was awfully HW-demanding ("They way it's meant to be played!" LOL), because almost any PC game dev these days (except for Crytek) gives a shit about code optimization, maybe even on purpose to push hardware sales.

PC might allow developers a bigger canvas but that requires more work & more resources. Consoles built the industry we have today because PC couldn't.

I think it's mostly kind of pointless to say hypothetical "what if's", it doesn't really have any bearing on reality.

I mean, if man was solely, 100% dedicated to develop gaming, we'd might be in the Matrix by now, but it didn't work out like that.

or maybe it did....
