Konami today revealed a bit of information and an image of PES 2010 (previously Pro Evolution Soccer). The game is set to be released on X360, PS3, PS2, PSP and PC. I switched over to Fifa last year after being a long-time PES fan, but it seems in the PR like they've listened to many requests. Maybe this is the year where they take the big leap into this generation?

This series needs major improvements because Fifa is leading now

Konami is finally realizing they can't keep selling the same flawed product for the 3rd year in a row.

All those enhancements are direct responses to the massive critics that went from the atrociously unplayable online mode to the AI, robotic animations, arcadeish gamepaly (which is promised to be gone this time) and many other aspects mentioned in the fact sheet.

I honestly hope they deliver on the promise or else EA will take over this genre. There's hope though, they've clearly taken major actions about the subject by restructuring the development process in teams dedicated to specific areas and incrementing the number of developers.

Every year you hear the same old stuff about what they're gonna go. Until we see gameplay or played it you can't really tell how well they've improved upon last years effort

If thats an ingame shot then theyve improved the lighting and texture quality along with the model detail of the players. That being said, theyve shown similar shots before then when you see the actual game it looks like a high res PS2 game, very flat lighting, very simple physics, low detail models, low res textures etc.

Hopefully they can come good and push fifa a bit, right now theres no real competition and no reason to buy a new PES title over an old one.

Sounds like Konami has finally realised that they're very much second best to EA this generation and are doing something about it. To be honest, the only way PES is going to overtake FIFA is if they completely overhaul most of the game.

I have my reservations still, so it's FIFA again for me this year until I'm forced to look at things differently.

P.S. I'm a Chelsea fan. 3-1, weeeyyyyyy!

PES is total shit this gen....PES09 literally ANGERED me....That's how shit it was.
It's more annoying knowing how awesome PES was just a few years ago.

The list SOUNDS good but they listed lots of shit before the release of PES09 as well and hardly any of them worked.

They need to re-write the whole engine, it simply doesn't work.
Best of luck for PES10 Konami....I am VERY VERY VERY optimistically hoping it will turn out great.

That image obivously doesn't represent in-game graphics. Nothing to get excited about. Suprise me Konami! Make a good next-gen football game and I'll give you my money.

I can't see going over to PES after two years with Fifa. I hope it ends up being good as most people who used to love PES, but I love the idea of having real lisences to play with, real clubs and real players with real leagues, adds allot more for me than I thought.

Anyways, maybe if I keep my hopes down this time, they will actually do something that impresses me...

LOL, my exact same thoughts. This truly does sound rather good, amazing even. I remember they also said the graphics were overhauled for PES09, lol, what a joke. I guess we'll see, I'd be surprised if I'm not disappointed.

Everyone keeps on saying that but in reality the only reason fifa appears to be improving is because it had alot more to improve, and gameplay which is where it counts pro evo is still superior and now I know why. Fifa is trying to to hard to create a simulation of the sport which leads to constraints when you play it like never being able to score a far shot, it still near impossible to dribble, may be not polar opposite but definitely differentiated dribbling wise is pro evo which allows the player to create their own experience if your good enough and unpredictable enough you could dribble past most of the squad or pass your way through it's the options/ choices that makes pro evo superior to this day, no doubt that fifa has improved but as long as there philosophy is to create the greatest simulation ever, they will never catch up with pro evo.

I hope so too!

They should not make it too much a simulation.

A soccer game needs to be a little arcade, otherwise you'd need 1 hour to score a goal, which is quite frustrating for a video game...

Thats y I did not like FIFA that much.
Maybe I just sucked bad, but I have never scored in the FIFA-demo, and I really did not just played it once

But the main problem with PES now is that it's too arcadey and, as a result, it feels extremely outdated. Sure, you still want the game to be fun more than anything else, but I did not have any fun at all playing PES09 because it felt like a half-arsed attempt at a football game.

FIFA trumps PES in all aspects for me, including gameplay.

What some of you PES fanboys (yes I was one of them) need to realise, is that tables switched. EA started getting pretty innovative with Fifa, they realised that they can do so much more to make the game better and take more market. PES been doing what FIFA been doing over years, releasing the same game with little efford and just adding a number on it. All versions of PES on next get are crap, if PES was released under different branding none of you would even piss on it....

His face looks like it belongs on a zombie in Left 4 Dead, and his thighs looks like they are coated in latex or something :P

Still too much smurf-gameplay for me, FIFA all the way. Imo FIFA actually feels good to play, you can feel the weight of the players and such. In PES it feels more like smurfs running around at 10x speed.

And this isnt about sim vs arcade. It doesnt matter. If one game feels good and another doesnt, has nothing to do with if one is sim or arcade =)

They say the exact same thing each year, don't be fooled, Seabass and his team have lost the plot, Pro Evo just wasn't a good football game, or a good sports game, it was one of the most addictive videogames on the planet and now it dosn't even register as a good football game, it's a real shame, notice how they've stated the improved graphics without mentioning a new engine, sorry Konami but Pro Evo is one of your biggest assests, get your fingers out of your backsides and give Seabass and his team a new engine to work with atleast, it's ridiculous.

Yepp, seeing them still use this dusty pre-PS2-engine makes one sad.

However, they could fix the main issues of the gameplay without a new engine, I figure. But then imo the gfx is one of the main issues that makes PES look really bad...

Konami need to have been working on this for many years to have a chance of regaining their crown.

All EA needs to do is say "Club Cup Competitions in Be A Pro" and they have my money.
