If this is what the game truly looks like, brilliant ...
But I think it may just be too good to be true.
I wonder if the game will have changing time of day, because with those soft shadows and the view distance in these shots, it's unlikely any PC could pull of that (soft shadows for the entire city at that resolution, using shadow mapping presumably). Otherwise if there is no time of day and the environment shadows are just lightmaps of course that's possible.
It could turn out like Crysis where they scaled down many effects and give the reason that no current PC could handle those effects, too.
but given the platform .....rockstar utilized every drop of next gen power for gta
you just cant have these types of graphics on a console....its impossible
Looks amazing

Just because GTA IV looks inferior, doesn't mean that X360/PS3 can't handle this.
Rockstar might've used every bit of power but not all the potential of the consoles. In the same context that both Gears of War 1 and 2 are using all the power but GOW2 uses it in a more efficient way.
Mafia 2 and GTA IV have very different engines that were built with different objectives. GTA IV's engine was built to have huge landscapes while Mafia 2's engine didn't have to cater to large landscapes so they freed up more power for graphical improvements.
All of those things in GTAIV are going to be WAY more impressive when seen in motion...
GTAIV does a lot of stuff that this game probably won't do. Deforming car crash physics, the new AI systems, dynamic IK based animations...

In other images other cars have a plate number etc, but the car belonging to THE player has just AAAAAA....
Why are you guys comparing them GTA IV comes out in 2 weeks and Mafia 2 comes out some time in 2009.
Which will make Mafia 2 even more obsolete if it doesn't include those features.
