i'm assuming it's yet ANOTHER tower defense game? if it is, oh my god, will they ever end?

on the plus side, the upcoming 'trine' looks really really good.

Here's what they say at their developers diary:

Q: The game will be a tower defense style? Mini-RPG, tower defence game. RTS? Is it a RPG? There is base building involved right?

A: Under Siege is an RTT (Real Time Tactics) game. It focus only in battles without gathering resources or base building.
Gameplay video soon anyway, so we will see how the game will play hopefully. Either way i think it looks cool.

uhm.. how did you conclude that from these pics ?

There are absolutely no hints at TD style of gameplay in them, on the contrary we see units fight other units.

I'm gonna get a little ahead of the real downfall here: it will suck.

count on it.

It's not Tower defense.

It's like an RTS for consoles, but you control a group of people, as far as I get it, rather than create an army, which is what PC RTS's are suited for.

And there's some sort of customisability about the game that they are teasing. Whether it be character creation/mapeditor, who knows.

dont tell me that second shot doesnt look like a tower defense game, because it does. bottleneck area where enemies are pouring in, in an almost artifical, single file line, defenses spread out across an area to take out as many as possible. it looks exactly like a tower defense game to me, only they've replaced the turrets with actual people.

I agree to your first comment now... that premature (and false) conclusion of yours really was a product of a weird asumption.

There have been quite a few TD custom maps in which people were turrets (immobile, auto-attacking / targetting), but have ever seen sth. like that in a comercially released independend game ? No? Because that's counter-intuitive.. if you see people you naturally asume they can move, so your asumption they "replaced turrets with people" is unusual (influenced by playing tons of TD custom maps, I asume) - it's sth. I wouldn't have come up with even after staring at the pic for hours, although I'm a TD veteran (aswell?).

Another thing why I found it silly to explicitely call this a "tower defense" game is, that you can see the enemy creatures stop to attack/kill your own (pic3). Usually "defense" games/maps in which that occurs as an integral gameplay element are referred to as "base defense" games/maps. (it's like someone saying "that looks like an RTS games" when confronted with a video of Civilization)
If your frustration actually is about "games in which you only defend your base" then plz say so in a unambigous way and even that point is questionable as you (only) have mobile units, so it's easy to hypothise you will be able to attack aswell in this game and (imo) unnatural to asume you won't be able to.

I'm keeping an eye out for this game. Looks like a solid tower defense game.
