just wow, that looked unbelievably awsome, simply the best 2d graphics/animation I've seen. That was simply incredible.

I guess it will make their return in KOFXIII that much better :)

They will be greatly missed though. They were the two characters I played the most with...... Think they could be unlocked perhaps ??? This is giving me hope that we may still be seeing Mai at least

Looks great...I agree it is pretty weird to not include Mai, who has been in every incarnation of the KOF games as far as I know and of course even before that in Fatal Fury. I would guess that overall quite a few characters have also not made it as the numbers in the later KOF games were pretty gargantuan...

DLC characters perhaps?

look pretty.. but i still dont think its that much of a leap up above how guilty gear looked almost 10yrs ago on the dreamcast - was just playing that the other day and its amazing how ahead of all the other 2D fighting games it was.

Blaz Blue doesn't look or animate half as good as KOF XII, dude. BB's animation is barely any better than GG's, which had 1-frame and 2-frame animations everywhere. And the sprites in BB don't have any shading.

Here's a comparison:

KOFXII looks MUCH better.

Another thing that needs mention:

The actual game runs at 60 fps, unlike those videos.

Here's the video at 60fps:

LOL. the comparsion you show says that booth games have some good and some bad things. the animations in koff are better but bb has better sprites (resolution) and better beckgrounds. so we say ist a draw because both look good in there on way and i like the bb style more than the koff style. but street fighter 2 and marvel vs. capcom 2 are still the best 2d fighting games (for me)

I'll have to agree that KOFXII looks better.. in just about every way. But then again I was never a huge Guilty Gear fan. I enjoy Arc Systems' games though, and I'll buy BlazBlue too. I still think so far as animation is concerned that Street Fighter 3 is tops.. it just suffers greatly in the resolution department.

that looks awesome, never tried a king of fighter game.

Really feel like checking it out when it hits the marketplace

Sprite resolutions are the same for BB and KOFXII. KOFXII zooms in when they are close, plus the style they chose is inherently pixely and was what they were going for.

This is a full retail game, not an XBLA title if that is what you were thinking.

In the interview, they stated that they've made every character for KOFXII in 3D and then used some special cel shading techniques to give them 2D look. It's somewhere on the youtube.

They modeled and animated them with the 3D models and then drew over them, i.e. they rotoscoped them.

Yes, they rotoscoped them. The clothes and detail were added in the drawings.

Anyway, a comparison between new and old KOF sprites:

Why on earth is there so much pixelation?

Because there are multiple levels of zoom and they drew the sprites.. in the wrong resolution :/

It still looks great though.. just not as great as it could have.

Right eh? I saw the game being played in an arcade a few days ago, and I really wasn't impressed at all. I mean, it animated well, but the characters simply weren't that good.
