PS3

As we already saw, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune has big chances to be one pretty pretty game. So here is a video showing and detailing the animation of the main character. Really nice, Naughty Dog.

The game is beautiful, no doubt. But somehow they don't get it together to make a real game out of it. The hide-and-shoot gameplay is sooo boring and has been done much better in past games. For me, Tomb Raider: Anniversary is the choice, even though it doesn't look half as good.

Lara on PS2 animated mush better in gameplay and characters in MGS3 animated mush better in cut scenes on PS2 too
all this talks about with PS3 we can do true next gen animations is stupid, Drake animation is very strange.

imho

But I loveTombRaider clones

I think everyone would prefer a PS3 optimized Tomb Raider over this, but hey, Alana isn't that much worse than Lara. In fact she looks much more... mmm, tangible.

running and jumping looks kind of weird in all the movies, almost like he's floating on the air some times. Other animations look good i guess, but the game itself just looks boring to me. The combat doesn't look particularly intense and i haven't seen much in terms of puzzles or platform action either. Either it sucks or you have to play it in order to see why it's a good game. So far i'm not impressed though.

one of the reasons i recently picked up a ps3. looks amazing graphically and has very VERY fluid animations. im more of an animation guy myself. would much rather take the prince of persia fluidness (first game to really focus A LOT of attention on animation) over tomb raider robot like movements. i played and completed anniversary a few days ago and while it was by far the best tomb raider yet. it still suffers from some of the problems from the psone versions. this is like gears of wars shooting (the only good thing about gears of war imo) mixed with the platforming elements of prince of persia...which imo is a GREAT thing. top game, even if its only 8 hours long (most games these days are) im definately picking this up. this and ratchet and clank are putting a lot of other games to shame tbh. at least for me.

and just as a side note, ACEfromrussia...you think lara animated better then drake in gameplay....are you blind perchance?

Looks great but I would rather Naughty Dog used their talents on something other than a Tomb Raider clone thats going to get overlooked by anyone that doesn't own a PS3. What they need to be doing is creating a system selling game that can be developed into a franchaise unlike this game that looks like a one off...

why does it look like a one off? if its like tomb raider surely it should give off vibes that it'll be going for another like 8 versions like tomb raider. which it does to me. and its a ps3 exclusives, kinda obvious its going to be overlooked by non ps3 owners...hahaha

i dont get whole PS3 superiority they speak about this game and how the ps3 allows dynamic animations and stuff, IMO, you dont need to look any further than Assasins Creed to find something comporable on multiple platforms including 360, everything in that game seems interactive in some form. I just dont beleive when they say the animations are only possible on PS3...maybe the graphics, but not the animations...

He does move like jerk some times. I mean, seriously, i think the animations are good overall but when he's running and climbing small objects or making small jumps it looks like he's running on thin air. What a jerk! Floating around like that!

Look at about 00:50 in, it looks wonky.

Fifty seconds in, they're showing a wireframe/debug mode. Uh, I wouldn't expect the animation to look spot on there...

In all the videos i've seen so far similar situations look like that. Whenever he jumps up on a smaller obstacle he looks like the freaking rocketeer except for the suit...and i guess he's not going around fighting nazis either.

Also, if it does not work correctly in a TEST ENVIRONMENT how the feck is it going to work in-game? :P

I genuinely can’t see any problems with it. I’m just happy they've finally created an animation system with more imperfections in movement. Where Lara croft does the same animation with the same outcome every time (robot), this feels like there’s a degree of uncertainty in his movements. He stumbles, he jumps with a sense of unease like a person would...if you see a 5m gap, you’re not going to jump across it with perfect form and grace with high levels of confidence. This guy isn’t a long jump gold medal holder, its an average guy. Imperfect animation, as the guy in the video said, is what gives characters actual character. Marcus fenix didn’t have any character because he moved like a walking tank, he had no little nuances. This and assassins creed are at the forefront of animation atm. but tbh, it’s not really surprising. Both the jak series and the prince of Persia/splinter cell series where also at the top of their game when it came to animation.

This gen I want characters with actual character, not ultra pretty planks of wood, which is what the likes of marcus fenix pretty much amount to.
