Been a long, far too long, time since we had a really great Castlevania game. I really like the CV style so if it can bring a level of gameplay equal to games like DMC, NG, or Bayo this could really be one of my fav action games. Bayo was great but dear lord I hated the character designs. This game is more what i'm looking for in terms of overall theme and design.

lets hope the gameplay can match the oldschool games we loved so much.

Though Im on the opposite about the character designs of Bayonetta I agree on everything else,I really hope for a very good game, the only other Castlevania I played was SotN and I liked it very much but I think they said in an interview that this game will not use that same template of game design so Im pretty much new of what they are trying to achieve here,

Im loving everything they have show so far and Im very optimistic about it,I hope the game wont dissapoint.

I wonder how many billions of castlevania games we have to play through to get to play as one of the "bad" guys. I miss games where you can be a evil anti-hero vampire like Legacy of Kain. Castlevania needs to evolve and put aside the whip and go in new direction. Don't mention the fighting game on wii that one is horrible.

How would that even work within the castlevania setting? You watch a blank screen for 5 hours, then a dark priest resurrects you, you then proceed to place enemies and powerups in the castle and waith for your inevitable demise at the hands of a Belmont? :)

Me and Raptor have practically the same opinions in this genre so what I am have to say is already said by him...or Nietzsche.

Lords of Shadow is the next title within this genre I am looking forward too, ALOT...except for Ninja Gaiden 3 obviously which tops the hype :D

I love the Castlevania universe already, and Lords of Shadow has this western style of art direction, and add to the fact they manage to get fantastic voice casting and everything else like visuals, story, music..etc. is going to be great.

I just hope the combat has a very good depth, maybe not crazy stuff like NG, DMC or the kings/queen of the genre...but if it has the same level like Darksiders, then awesome!

PS. Please for the love of God devs...do NOT, I repeat, do NOT add any stupid QTE whatsoever.
I dont mind one button finishers like Darksiders and NG2/Sigma 2, but too keep waiting for random buttons are horrible.

Why shouldn't it work? The way you describe it sounds like a wicked version of simcity. It would be cool to have a setting where Dracula fights to retake his castle and to win the loyalty of various minions. There are lots of ideas to create a game based on an antagonist. Just look how many Wario games there are as an example... >_>

Because that's just not Castlevania. I mean...it's like wishing for microsoft flight simulator to have more third person combat. Besides, there are plenty of other series out there where you play an antihero. And it's not like you haven't got to play as a plethora of different characters through out the series anyway, just look at the cast of Castlevania 3, Symphony of the night and the DS games. Sim Castlevania just doesn't seem like something the fans would enjoy :P

And you can't play as dracula, it'd make no sense. Every century Dracula is resurrected and a new Belmont steps up to take him down. There'd be no time for Dracula to do any thing, the entire game would just be one boss battle. At best you could be some douche trying to resurrect him, but how fun would that be?

Love the style and art direction.

Plus the fact that Kojima has even peeked over the shoulder of the devs is awesome.
Commented on 2010-03-02 19:43:14
Just hope his involvement hasn't turned the game into a complete exposition-shitstorm like all other Kojima games ;)

do you think it's possible to have a 3D Castlevania that doesnt suck?
Commented on 2010-03-02 20:09:14
Granted the 4 attempts so far have all sucked really bad, but hopefully this will change the trend? It's hardly because the concept doesn't translate well though, the teams have just been complete pillocks before.

It looks like a crappy attempt at a mix of Bionic Commando and God of War. Not looking good.

while i kinda like the style of it, i do think it's going to suck overall. castlevania + 3d = disaster, at least going on previous attempts, i'm not holding my breath for this to break that tradition althoug i would love it if it did.

Look fantastic, can't wait

Bionic Commando? lol, for what?
Just because one image shows the main character has to cross a gap so he uses the chain and swings is a copy? be serious.
Then that would include Indiana Jones, Zorro...and any other character that uses a long tool to swing cross something.

Its a simple tool you use to get cross something, they arent using it as a gameplay mechanic like Bionic Commando is doing.

BTW, what makes this a bad attempt of GOW? If you want to take it that way, then GOW is a poormans DMC and NG because they were released and made before GOW and the only thing GOW has at its advantage is scale and visuals and that doesnt make any game better.

DMC1 - 2001
NG - 2004
GOW - 2005

PS. Castlevania used the chain weapon idea way before God of War so, yeah. If anything GOW is a poor attempt of any title before it lol.

What are you guys talking about? There have already been plenty of Castlevania games without whip using main characters, not to mention ones with a Dracula-like character. (without spoiling too much) And I disagree about there being no good 3D Castlevania games. The N64 ones were two of my favorite 64 games. The first PS2 one was kinda bad, but still had some redeeming qualities, and the second one had its flaws as well but was greatly improved. Because so many people thought the N64 ones were bad, the producer of the PS2 ones tried so hard to make them different, that he left out the parts that actually worked for them.

And considering this game is being developed by a completely different team, it doesn't make sense to make predictions about this game based on the previous games. But with that said, I'm waiting to see more about it first. It may be so unrelated from the previous games that it will actually work against it, who knows.

Peking: Nostalgia much? All 4 attempts at castlevania in 3d = ass. The old castlevania games are better, contemporary 3d action games are better and only nostalgia could possibly save them :)

A wholly new team is possibly the best thing to ever happen to a castlevania in 3d. Though i'm pretty sure that this will in no way keep teh atmosphere or anything from teh old games, it might still be good. Some gameplay would be nice to see before assuming anything though.
