Press release:

THQ unveils Metro: Last Light
Return to the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow in the sequel to 2010’s cult hit, Metro 2033

Woking, UK, May 31, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) – THQ (THQI) today announced that the hugely anticipated sequel to 2010’s multiple Interactive Achievement Award finalist, Metro 2033, is scheduled for release in Calendar 2012, for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC.

Metro: Last Light will immerse the player in the haunting, desolate ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow, one of the most richly detailed and beautifully realised gaming worlds of modern times. Developer 4A Games will deliver a terrifying, atmospheric single-player adventure that fuses thrilling combat with exploration and survival horror to create a unique, memorable experience.

“We believe that Metro 2033 was a flawed masterpiece,” said Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ. “It was a beautiful, original game that didn’t get the marketing support it needed. We won’t make that mistake with Metro: Last Light. This game improves on the original in every way – it will have more polish, deeper and more sophisticated gameplay, and satisfyingly visceral combat, without losing what our fans loved about the original. Metro: Last Light is another artful piece of game development from an Eastern European studio that will thrill and terrify anyone looking for a more cerebral experience than your typical first person shooter.”

Metro: Last Light pitches the player into the midst of a desperate civil war for control over a doomsday device that threatens to destroy humanity forever. The epic single-player campaign and unique multiplayer experience will benefit from the extraordinary lighting, physics and destruction made possible by Metro: Last Light’s bespoke 4A Engine technology.

Metro: Last Light will be unveiled to the public at this years’ E3 Convention with a live gameplay demonstration.

Wow, really nice teaser, lots of gameplay shots hidden. New monsters. Metro 2033 was a unique experience (and a beast on PC), so have high hopes.

Nice. Also on PS3 this time.
Don't hold your breath I've only ever heard the PC version being spoken off highly.

Yeah, I wouldn't trust the console port of an Eastern European game ;)

this.

Anyone can see the digital foundry analysis and see its one of the best fps engines of last year. Great visual and some of the best atmosphere ever, with the usual "crank that s*it up" on the PC side, nothing new. Far from the Risen/Gothic ports that the usual east-europe suspects bring.

The neagtive aspects are tied to both platforms and is more akin to the gameplay itself with random/bad AI, buggy ragdoll and crappy shooting.

I heard of quite a few game-breaking glitches. Somewhere around a stealth mission in the military camp.

yeah, i got one where it would crash when i entered some safe zone. just had to keep doing it over and over until the game decided to let me pass. lol, bit if a mess as far as FPS's go tho, pretty crappy shooting mechanics, pretty stiff movement, bad animations, bad rag doll physics, dodgy AI, boring story and short to boot (good thing considering the story and gameplay)

some of the best textures i've seen on a console tho. but that's all the good i can say about it.

If they can fix the gameplay issues with stealth and AI it could compete gameplay wise.

If they could fix the robotic movement, character models and animation it could be the best looking console game.

Without fixing these issues it will never be the best at anything.

Wasn't the first game only in tunnel underground. I think it did pretty bad. 2012 is fine but it should be far away from MW4 release date lol

Hmmmm, pity the game wont actually look like those screenshots...they put them through the photoshop machine and now look closer to game art than representative of what the game will look like.

I have played through it 3 times and have yet to encounter any significant glitch.

It had a bunch of outdoor sections, can't say i agree with this doing underground tunnel sections badly, i cant think of any game that has made a derelict subway as atmospheric and interesting as this.

The atmosphere in the first one was great. I had a really good time playing through it, I'm definitely looking forward to see what the sequel holds. If they just improve the shooting mechanics it could turn out really good.

Once you get to the Librarians on the surface, that's where you'll see how awesome the game CAN be. Brilliant atmosphere. Very survival horror FPS, makes it stand out amongst other FPS franchises.

I quite enjoyed the original on the 360. Fantastic engine and environments let down by some clunky map design and really ugly character models. Definitely lots of potential there though.

I'm glad they didn't name it "metro 2034"
Metro 2033 was a great game, beat on it on 360 and easily one of the better looking games of this console generation.
