Moon Spider Studio Announces ‘Harold’ for Consoles and PC

Independent Developer Debuts a Gorgeous New Take on Side-Scrolling Platformer Games

KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA – August 22, 2012 – Moon Spider Studio today announced its debut title, Harold, a unique platformer racing puzzle game, will hit consoles and PC next year. In Harold, players guide and protect the titular Harold as he races through a number of beautifully animated, treacherous obstacle courses.

Harold is the first title from Moon Spider Studio. The game puts players in the role of a guardian angel tasked with guiding the title character, Harold, through a series of increasingly complicated courses. Harold’s gangly frame and thick glasses make him a long shot to win any of the races and he will need all the help he can get running, jumping and sliding across multi-tiered levels and against challenging opponents. Luckily, being an angel comes with some perks; players will be able to manipulate the environment around Harold in a variety of ways, giving him access to a number of different paths and race advantages, while simultaneously sabotaging the course for Harold’s opponents.

“We have a fantastic team here at Moon Spider Studio and all I want to do is make good games,” said Loris Malek, President of the Moon Spider Studio. “We’ve assembled some of the most talented artists, designers and programmers from inside and outside of the video game industry, each with incredible pedigrees. We’ve been working on Harold for a while now and we can’t wait to finally show our creation to the world.”

The team at Moon Spider features creative talent with incredibly rich backgrounds in film, animation and video games. Many artists have portfolios from their time working at iconic studios like Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, Studio Ghibli and more, and helped create memorable animated films including The Iron Giant, Aladdin, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Princess Mononoke. These talented individuals are utilizing all of their experiences to help make Harold one of the most visually stunning video games ever created.

Harold will be released on consoles and PC in 2013. It will make its public debut at PAX Prime (booth #129) in Seattle, WA August 31-September 2, 2012. How? More like lemmings, where you don't control the character, but affect the environment/motivate him so he wins the race.

I find my self interested. The art looks pretty good. I love all the layering...

That one preview screen.

Actual game looks like those auto runner games like Canabalt, with a more hand-drawn cartoony animation which is really cool.

Why aren't these games on the PS Vita? This would be perfect for it.

If you watch the vid, the player shoots lightning to make him run faster, opens doors, flips levers, and "rolls" that bridge. Is that what you mean? I was just wondering where you got "Pitfall". Because there is an alligator in a jungle? Canabalt? I think I'll go look that up...

Lovely animation but I recently realized I am really narrow minded about platform games, if I don't directly control the character it pisses me off. Almost certainly an early exposure to antiques like Manic Miner and later the perfection of Mario.

About the game

What's up?
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX I just think it's a pretty bad sign if a new game can't generate interest on a free weekend. The fact that there are other new games is not a very compelling excuse imo. (21 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX Black Ops is also the most popular Call of Duty sub-brand now. (22 minutes ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts Also, even WD2 and Dishonered 2 sold much less than the previous games in their series. Same for CoD:IW, very few games that got released this Holiday season sold more than their predecessors. (34 minutes ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts electric devices, entertainment devices, etc. So who has that much money left that isn't reserved for Christmas perparation and gifts?! All around bad timing, hence why I believe Spring would be right (36 minutes ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts Then you have the fact that by now people's wallets are hurting. And many people buyed new consoles, PS4 Base or Pro, and XB1 S. Plus Holiday season sells a lot of other things like clothes, PC parts, (38 minutes ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts I believe it has to do with the fact that there's too many games to play at the moment, and most of these new games ar very long. This is the week FF15 was just released, and WD2 on PC as well. (39 minutes ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts Maybe, but I believe it would have become a kind of "cult-classic" niche game even if it failed to become a very huge success. Still, if a game like TF2 isn't succesful, it's a real shame. (41 minutes ago)
