New images of Final Fantasy XIII at Famitsu

The internet website of japanese magazine Famitsu releases some new screenshots of Final Fantasy XIII. It showcases the motorcycle of the blond character we met in the demo. To each his own, I guess.

The design strikes me as incredibly overworked. Just look at that motorcycle :P

I think his name is Snow.

And that motorcycle is plain cool.

...also seemed fine?

that would be a fun ride

...ugh

Anyway, superhyped for the game, and like the bike, eventhough it is a little corny. I thought we would be able to ride this out of battle damnit!!

Frame rate seemed fine most of the time, but in the trailer, the scene with lightning standing in a wide open desert type area with mountains on the sides (maybe the world map....most open area weve seen anyway) the frame rate drops to single digits, no doubt they will fix it by release, but it is by no means perfect yet.

I wouldn't mind having that motorcycle ride ME ;)

Looks like the same predictable FF design choices. I'm getting really bored of the FF franchise. At this point the games are starting to feel far too similar to previous titles. I think the last game I really got excited about was 8 or 9. Everyhting after that has been fun but a letdown all the same. XII had so many good things going for it and I still couldn't enjoy it enough to finish the game.

I think the Western RPGs have shown a lot more to brag about this generation, and I can't see this being the game to bring the JRPG genre back to it's former glory.

Hmm, not sure about that...take ME for instance...probably my fave rpg so far this gen. Its clean and attractive, basically iPod scifi...quite bland. This at least offers some flash, something which pretty no other rpg, east or west offers. Fair enough if its not your cup of tea though. Me? About the only rpg I care about these days...aside from ME2 perhaps...

You gotta admit, it is pretty cool that he is fighting from the back of the bike(lame as the design is, imo). Looks like hes riding a dolphin, or something- I guess that's how they keep it androgenous after finally making the men look like males...

did you watch the long japanese trailer? its sub 20 FPS during some battle scenes. I am not really impressed...I hope this comes to PC at some point. 60 FPS FTW

doesnt the bike transform? i read it was a sumon or something?
Commented on 2009-06-09 19:19:08
I'm disappointed to learn that there is only one summon per character.

There is video of it at Gametrailers. Can't recall the title but it was a 5-6 minute video from last week IIRC.

I thought Mass Effect was very original, especially a lot of the alien designs.. Most of them are very unique and just really cool.

Then again, I'm not sure how this is typical FF either. The characters are a little reminsisent of FF8, but I don't remember ever seeing a character with a beanie hat and a scarf in his pants in any of the previous games :P

The bike is Shiva.

i'm sure the framerate problem is because the game isn't complete and it hasn't been optimized properly yet. i have the japanese demo and the framerate dropped in a couple of spots but it really wasn't that big of a deal. too busy playing the game and looking at the gorgeous visuals to notice a little hiccup in framerate.

I was about to say that. Claiming to use '100%' of PS3's power this framerate is horrible. We've all seen Killzone 2 run with those graphics, and that was 60% of the PS3.

The framerate will be smooth like we have always seen in FF games with the final release.

Is that really true? Really?

Please stop with this percentage bullshit, it doesn't mean jack, just lame PR stunt.

Pull your head out of your ass and realize that all of these numbers are bullshit. The only thing a percentage like that means it that that's what that particular team managed to squeeze out of the machine, and that it makes good pee-ar. In the Guerilla case it makes good PR for sony (to me it sounds like "thanks for funding our insane game project!" more than anything) and in the FFXIII case it's just a pitch for selling the game.

I mean, why the F**K would Guerilla make a game and go like...man, 40% of the hardware isn't used as it stands people, but fuck it...let's just leave it at that. Who cares about it anyway?

That's 90% true.

yea the % stuff is all garbage. For very obvious reasons a FPS pushes any system to the max because the player has full control over the character...he can at any moment turn 20 degree, 60 degree to look at the environment...throw a lot of nades or create a huge chain reaction, for those reason and more FPS's push any machine to the max.

While in Final Fantasy you have extremely scripted gameplay and set piece scenarios...you can't change the camera angles, the gameplay is scripted...very little control is involved.

Really...are you just trolling or are you actually serious?
Commented on 2009-06-10 01:47:28
How is it trolling? I have bought every single Final Fantasy since Final Fantasy VII (excluding XI and all the non main titles). I enjoy them greatly but these games don't push systems...they are basically interactive movies. Very linear and very controlled. In a FPS you have at least some amount of freedom...a FPS graphics engine is way more impressive than any Final Fantasy engine IMO.
