New Left 4 Dead 2 images

Valve released a new batch of Left 4 Dead 2 images for the Comic Con, these one showing a rather murky swamp level.

The source engine with a grain filter. The engine is showing it's age in those screenshots. But the it looks to have a good vibe.

Starting? People give Halo 3 shit, and Source is like 50 years old. I personally don't care, Valve still rocks the art direction, which makes most of their games shine anyway. But given the graphic whorism that we're used to seeing all over the internet I expect L4D2 to get eaten alive. I look forward to seeing L4D3 early next year anyway.

I like the additions but if they think they're gonna trick me into paying $50 for this at launch they're crazy. Black Friday deals anyone? Even still, I'll hop on for their half off sale around the time I got it for the PC this year. Yes I'm bitter.

Additions look cool but I'm still mad.

I haven't had any kind of a go at L4D, but it must be very cool teaming up with some friends and taking up hordes of zombies. I'm still stoked at the concept.

looks great but i laughed at the first pic. look in the background and you can see a paratrooper (or maybe a pilot that ejected?) hanging from the tree, dead. nothing wrong with that, except he is wearing no backpack and the parachute is connected to his waistband. the guy is probably dead because his spine snapped in half the moment he opened his chute. seriously valve, if you're going to put in little details at least make the little details realistic.

Sure, its maybe not the most technical advanced game out there... but I haven't seen an Unreal Engine 3 title have more natural looking environments or near as good character models. I think Source is better than UE3...

Indeed, the non-zombie character models have a healthy sense of realism to them. The only thing that lets them down is the poly clipping on them; the way the clothes bend, etc doesn't look great. But still, a great game in it's own right, especially from a multiplayer perspective!

Depeche Mode in the game then? :D

Grain filter, thank god we should be able to turn that bad boy off.
Looking great

looks awesome, cant wait. But i'm really not liking the main characters... hopefully they'll get a last minute redesign just like L4D did

Right now I'm very skeptical about the environments in Mass Effect 2. Will they look as stale as in the original game, and suffer from horrible framerate, I'm not so sure it will look that great. And besides; even if Mass Effect 2 would look terrific it's probably not the engine itself we should thank, but Bioware that probably have done some changes within it to make the game look as good as possible. ;-)

The faces looks convincing in the E3 videos tho, agree with you in that regard :)

Well I'm still a bit pissed that L4D2 is out so early, but there is no way I won't buy this day 1. Nice to see they have some darker environments as well, so the grainfilter has something to do.

Has the game moved on from playing like a cheap mod? Everything about the first game suggested budget title, so I refused to buy it.

The frame-rate in the E3 demo was fluid all the way trough. And the character models and the lighting looked much better than in the first one. Granted, the environments did look as " stale" as in the first game, and that maybe because of the whole "look" of the game but also partly because of the limitations of the engine/harware. The emphasis certainly is in the character models.

L4D looked pretty good to me on a high end PC, the game's performance was really great! I don't think the Source engine is getting weak at all...Team Fortress 2 looks great (although the environments are really static), HL2 Episode 2 looked great, L4D looks awesome at 60 FPS with 4 X AA.

VALVE ROCKS

Valve does rock but there's no way anyone can say that the engine isn't showing its age, even with their upgrades. Their stellar art direction really pays off though. Art > Tech, any day of the week.

Very nice Valve, but honest to fuck, pull the thumb out and release HL2: Ep3 already. It.s only been what - 5 years? Lazy bastards.

Valve are seriously overrated. They should be doing so much more. Gabe needs to lay off the pies and start writing a new engine.

Still love the Source engine after all these years.

The difference between graphics today and back when the Source engine was new are not as great as the leap between 2000 and 2004. I really don't think Valve will need a new engine until Crysis-level graphics become mainstream; and that's probably not going to be for a while.

The biggest advantage of the Source engine is how optimized it is. I can run that kid on my Macbook Pro with a big resolution and a great framerate, without having to sacrifice any of the neat effects. I really think Valve have the right idea with that.

COD4 has a really great engine, too.

A pregnant zombie, why would they do that?
