Trailer Xbox 360 PS3

Mortal Kombat's reboot is back with this new video trailer of what we hope will not be a shadow of a game.

Wow, that was terrible as all hell. What's the deal with the crappy Disturbed music for one? Who teh f**k still likes Disturbed? They weren't good back in 2000 and they still aren't :P

That aside i have a hard time taking this seriously. If they were just claiming that it was a throwback to the old MK games, making just a simple fun gore-fest rather than teh half-assed attempts at fighting, character customization, kart racing and would-be adventure style questing then i would be all for it but them claiming that they are making this deep enough that serious tourmanemt players can have a go with it and find it satisfying? Yeah, i'll believe that shit when i see it. I don't think these guys know how to balance a serious fighter for shit to be honest.

Although I like how the game looks so far I'd rather see a new movie. Ultimate MK3 was the best so far and that's good enough.

i wasnt sold on this initially. never been an MK fan, and i still stand by the idea of the series needing a fresh approach to it's fighting, rather then keeping elements of the old games that where only there in the first place due to technical limitations (seriously, the chracters still animate like they're made up of a small number of 2D sprites)

BUT.....i've liked what i've seen. and it's rare im ever interested in fighters since...man, maybe tekken 3?, soul calibur 2 at a stretch. it just looks like shallow, brutal fun.

oh, and i like distrurbed...granted, this song and their new album sucks, and their not exactly relevant anymore. but they're still a decent band imo.

Disturbed sucks, it's "metal" for people who don't like metal. One of the more horrid pop-ifications of a subculture if you ask me. But enough of that OT crap.

I think the thing is...you don't like fighters so MK appeals? I can sort of get that becaseu MK is the most braindead fighter of all time, and that's pretty mucha lways been the case and the source of it's success. People want gore, MK delivers. If you want a deep fighting experience you go elsewhere :)

Or maybe it's just part of a different fucking sub genre. Just because it's not YOUR metal doesn't mean it isn't good music. Obviously they aren't shit because their pretty popular. Disturbed has some good music, they know how to make you feel the music, something a LOT of great metal bands aren't so good at. If you dig the heavier sound and the more sophisticated vocals (ie, not some asshole who can't do anything but pig squeal. I'm not saying tis a fuckin opera or anything)

Anyway, I'm super psyched for this game. Everything about it seems to be going in the right direction, especially considering a certain past "MK" game.... I hope they pull this off really well, I might be able to actually play a damn fighting game again!

Disturbed is fine. Just because they aren't screaming doesn't mean they suck...

Game looks pretty brilliant unlike the past few failures they made in the MK series

Disturbed isn't Metal for the ones that don't like metal. What nonsense is that? I listen to Metallica, Machine Head, In Flames, Blind Guardian, CoB, Norther, DevilDriver and so on (I already hear them say "this band is not a metal band! :D )..and i love Disturbed. And really..it should be about the music not if it is metal enough for your taste. Who gives a damn about categorization, anyway? ;) I just have to agree to what pythxvii says...
To the game..I've never been a MK fan..maybe this can turn me into one? They said they'll also work on the controls which is an important thing for me..let's see what the next trailers will show us. And we need a demo of this!

That's wrong on so many levels. People eat shitty music up like it's icecream :P
Popular is not the same a good, it just means it has a hook to suck the apathetic masses in. They have a boring sound, they have no imagination when it comes to song writing and to call their vocals sophisticated says more about you than anything else. You want cool vocals? Try some Coheed and Cambria.

Disturbed is just a really bad fusion of pop and metal, with all that that stamp comes with when i use the word pop. The music is bland, uninventive and lacking in character. It's boring beyond words, but serves to draw in people that don't really care what they are listening to.

Disturbed fans, prepare to have your minds blown by 1994: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McdWoeoO0kI

edit* ooh, oh, i know what to call it now! How about college-metal? Eh, fits them pretty well ;)

To be fair, "good" is highly subjective. What does good mean? If it means it is enjoyed by a lot of people, more power to them. Personally, I can't stand listening to a lot of "great" musicians. Take great guitar players like Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Do they have a lot of talent? Hell yeah they do, but it doesn't mean I can listen to it for very long. Does skill make something good, or it's level of appeal? If someone can make an enjoyable song that is simple musically- hell that's it's own art form. It all comes down to why you listen to music. You may think it's shitty, but someone else doesn't. Doesn't make your opinion stick more. That StompBox point was funny though...

I may not like Steve Vai because of personal taste, but i can still appreciate what he does because there is genuine talent and thought behind his stuff, unlike Disturbed who wrote one song then transposed it 10 times to make an album. It's like saying McDonalds food is good food becasue a lot of people happen to eat there a lot. I'm not saying simple music is bad, i'm saying thoughtless, effortless music is bad.

"Drowning deep in my sea of loathing
Broken your servant I kneel
(Will you give in to me?)
It seems what's left of my human side
Is slowly changing in me
(Will you give in to me?)"

It's like a angsty 14-year old emo twat wrote it. And in 10 years time they haven't evovled at all, they still sound EXACTLY the same. I could easily confuse a track from Asylum with one from The Sickness. I say it again, they completely lack any sort of imagination and unless you are completely musically illiterate you'll notice that. Try to justify it any way you want, it's braindead music for the same kind of audience. I mean, the fact that they more or less had one or two big hits and then flaired out just like any pop-phenomenon pretty much underlines the quality of their music. They have no traction whatsoever.

And yes, i'm a huge music snob.

One or two big hits. I don't know...they sold more than 11 million CD's. So it's probably more than one or two hits ;)
Lyrics don't need to be complicated, they don't need to be highly sophisticated, they just need to touch you..And I think they can deliver when it comes to that.
By the way, they evolved throughout their albums. A lot.
You mentioned Coheed and Cambria. I listened to their stuff and for someone who doesn't know them, their stuff sounds the same, no change over the years. Oh wait..isn't it the same with you and Disturbed? Think about it ;)
It just makes no sense to argue about a band. Everyones taste is different..

You know that metal means more than just black metal, right? I know the bands you listed..and I don't like one of them, the voices suck in my opinion. And the voice is, to me, the most important part of the music.
Oh, and I can't take these bands seriously..I have to laugh every time I see these guys, honestly...

Lol, I'm not saying I'm a huge Disturbed fan. Don't really like 'em much at all myself, I was just saying that shit appeals to someone, and to them, it's good. It's really hard to quantify music, IMO. Some people listen to some real disonent shit, and swear up and down it's brilliant because it's not the same as anything else...

Disturbed is not metal. They aren't related to metal. They aren't a sub-genre of metal. Slayer is metal.

If your band has a ballad... they aren't metal. Metallica stopped being metal when they released the black album.

Just my opinion, but my opinion is right.

I believe this has become a nerdraging flame war. Someone call the care police on Disturbed. Honestly, I always give a Mortal Kombat game a rental. It's an arcade classic. It's never been about in-depth systems, its been about good old fashioned entertainment, for which it delivered quite well in the early years. Their recent iterations and attempts at diving into other genres have proved fruitless, but, as long as they keep their "kill bill" mentality of being serious while being completely silly.
