Our videos of The Evil Within

Our videos of The Evil Within

The Evil Within being available on most platforms, we captured the beginning of the adventure on PC, with the original 30 fps frame rate. We did try Bethesda's tip to unlock the game at 60 but it never seemed to work as the frame rate kept going above 70/80, with noticeable slowdowns on our PC running with a GTX 970. This new title by one of the fathers of survival horror may not be a tech feast, but its great art style and frightening atmosphere makes us want to play more. Beware though, as this is pretty hardcore. You'll die a lot, you'll have to play through entire areas again because of the old school save system, but you'll eventually come back for more.
Update: Two videos added.

The First 6 Minutes
The Next 5 Minutes
The Prey
Escape
The Forest

Old school save system? Ink ribbon?

Not exactly, but you must find a mirror which is actually a gateway to a strange place where you can save your progress. There are a few checkpoints (but they are scarse) and as far as I know they're only temporary as long as you don't quit the game.

I'll have to wait until I finish Alien Isolation before playing this but I've tried it for a few minutes and it looks great, feels like a real survival, not the crap that RE6 was.

Have watched some vids, every time the explosion will make him into the same amount of body pieces, that's weird

Why do i get the feeling i'm looking at Josh Brolin whenever i see the main protagonist? this is the 6th time now.

I guess i know who'll be playing as this guy when the movie comes out.

I don't think this it's that much better than RE6... I'm 4 hours in and there's no terror at all. It's more of a "stealth shooter" like TLOU, but without any of the great characters, and with more frustrating gameplay.

I'm sure the game will have its fans though, I mean even Shadows of the Damned had fans and that was painful for me to play. But The Evil Within has convinced me that Mikami had very little to do with how awesome RE4 was.

The games takes a dramatic change of gameplay style later on, almost as if it forgets there are stealth mechanics.

Little to do? he had everything to do wih RE4!

And even Shadows of the Damned (which was pretty good) is far better than RE6.

For those willing to see the PS4 version in action, we made a bunch of videos too. Unfortunately, as there is no English audio in the French digital (or Bluray) version, it's only up on the French side....

The game is ok
The graphic is not in the top class but is still ok to most of the people
Yes there are some pop-out of the missing shadow or the low resolution in the far distance. But the atmosphere is great

And the framerate is solid according to my play during chap 1&2, not sure whether I'll encounter the frame drop in the future chapters

The gameplay is well designed, it's easy to feel that the whole system is made by the experienced team.

Everything together just makes you feel that this is the true form of resident evil which Shinji Mikami wants to deliver

Damn, even a 970 is not enough to get a consistent 60fps.

That's not the problem. The command they say is supposed to lock the frame rate at 60 does not work for me. It stays above 60 and is not steady as a result. I tried to cap it while capturing, using Mirilis to prevent the frame rate from going above 60 but it didn't work that well either.

Try Inspector, Driftwood?

http://www.overclock.net/t/1368777/how-to-create-c...

It sucks that you have to use the dev console to set those parameters (unlock FPS, remove borders), which in turn disables Steam achievements for that session.

I didn't but the one time I did with PCARS to cap the frame rate at 30, it was not really satisfying. Do you think it's worth trying with 60 here?

I've never really tried it, to be honest. I just recently got a g-sync capable display though, which adds a little latency if you go over the refresh rate, so I've been looking at my options, and this is one that keeps popping up. Luckily most of the games where that would be a factor have build in limiters, so I haven't encountered any real issues yet.

aaaand.. I was just reading this old thread: http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t...

Which makes me think that inspector is probably as bad as anything else.
