Our videos of the Halo 5 beta

Our videos of the Halo 5 beta

As promised, thanks to the combined efforts of Davton, Ghost_Deus and Zepitou, here are two direct feed videos from the Halo 5: Guardians beta which was made available to a bunch of happy-few yesterday. Don't expect to see some crazy skills in action, but at least it's way better than what you got to see yesterday (well, except when Zepitou is playing obviously). Enjoy!

The sound design is so good.

Played this last night and i like it. Same old Halo but with some new features, which was very much needed. The added agility in movement makes it more competitive on a pro level.

The engine looks too much like Halo 4's though. It's meant to be new, but it seems like they've just modified the previous engine. It looks good but it's not as impressive as it should be. Where as Halo 4 was very impressive looking on the ancient 360 hardware. But obviously Halo 5's engine may improve before release which is still far off.

Plus 60fps man. I bet that is going to sacrifice something in the visuals department.

That looks like some 720p right there. I will be more than disappointed if this game ends up running at 720p. I expect more from the visuals after the great job they did with Halo 4.

The beta definitely runs at 720p. I highly doubt the final game will run at that resolution. I predict something along the lines of 1360x1080 or something like that. Halo 5 is not due for another year man (most likely Nov 2015). Plenty of time for things to change.

1600x900p and 60 fps will be great. Or maybe killzoneShadowfall solution wil do the job 960x1080p

Its a good game of MP for sure. Needs some tweaking but I love the direction 343 is going with it.

343 stated, in one of their interviews, that the final game will run at a higher resolution, possibly 1080p.

Slowdowns should not be permitted in Halo

I have stopped to believe any promises made by game developers.
Just wait and see...

Yeah they did say that for this beta they went with 720p, but they are definitely going for 1080p. But it's a wise thing not to expect too much. We'll see. One thing is for sure...graphically it probably won't blow you away, i guess the game being 60fps sacrifices some graphical things.

Wow, I was not prepared for this... I simply cannot believe how bad it looks.

Doesn't look amazing or anything but its good enough IMO. The sound design is fucking incredible. I gotta be honest though I'm really disappointed in the direction they're taking the series. The homogenization of FPS games these days... why do they feel the need to add all this air boosting shit? Keep it like Halo, that is what your fans want. If you're trying to go after the CoD crowd you've lost your way 343.

Personally I like the evolution of control and of course this should apply to what's also wrapped around it in campaign encounters. An extra layer is a good thing from my perspective of it. It can be done very wrong of course but I'm not sensing that here

I think I'm a little out of touch with FPS games these days. I just want prettier versions of the same old halo gameplay.

It plays very well. Other people playing it with me also thought so. It's nothing like CoD and the new abilities are different.

They can't just keep Halo the same forever. It's also ridiculous if they kept the same abilities from the old games, where you couldn't even sprint or climb - You're meant to be a spartan super solder, not a 90 year old granny. Not being able to do these very basic things would get any soldier killed in real life.

Yup.. ADS, sprinting, and that 4-way-dash is nothing like Advanced Warfighter :P

The thing they did right is getting rid of ordinance and loadouts. That will go a long way. It can be good without being the same old Halo. It can even be good while following industry trends, if they play their cards right.

Sprinting was in Halo 4, thruster packs were in Halo Reach, and ADS works differently in Halo 5 because it doesn't slow your movement down at all.

But i don't know why people always compare games to CoD. It didn't invent any of this stuff. Although console peasants are not use to lots of quality FPS games like the Master Race are, so they don't have much to go on ;D

My complaint isn't really that its necessarily like CoD, as much as its just not really unique anymore. Why does every shooter have to have boosting and sprinting? I'm just glad they released MCC so I can get my Halo:CE itch scratched on occasion (it actually worked for me last night, which was a first)

Copying game mechanics from other games is 'natural' evolution.
Copy and keep the things the people are used to and add some new stuff here and there. If there is no meltdown in the internets, keep the new stuff in and so on.

Frankly, I have no idea why the hardcore halo fans (aka whining babies) are so afraid of every change of the gameplay. I seriously don't get why ads and sprint get so much hate.

It's still ADS. They also said there was "no penalty to hip-fire," but guess what? An ADS bonus is the same thing as a hip-fire penalty. Most complains about ADS are friggin' ignorant as hell anyway, but that's not really the point. Halo was never an ADS shooter, and now it most certainly is.

Also: Halo 4 is junk.

Well.. in this case it's because it looks like the most recent Call of Duty. But Call of Duty still has killstreaks and horrific perk trees and stuff. They ripped that crap back out of Halo, and for that I am grateful.

Is it original? Hell no. Is it Halo? Probably not. But it still looks better than H4.

Or maybe it's okay for different people to have different opinions. You think it looks really good? That's fine, why would I care? Why do you care that I disagree? Move along and accept that not everyone will agree on everything.

Ok i watched the videos now too. Maybe i am being too harsh, but it really doesn't seem to look that much better than Halo 4 multiplayer, plus the aliasing is...quite noticeable. But of course 720p is not helping that either.
