Our Xbox One videos of Cities Skylines

Our Xbox One videos of Cities Skylines

Released two years ago on PC, Cities: Skylines is finally available on Xbox One, a rather well done adaptation with a UI and controls redesigned for the console. It therefore offers an almost identical base game to the PC version as well as the After Dark expansion. Here are videos of the creation of a city and a few impressions.

On the plus side

+ Very good gamepad controls
+ Nice graphics
+ Almost complete Cities Skylines experience
+ After Dark expansion included
+ 12 maps, 4 themes
+ Sandbox mode
On the downside

- A few slowdowns during close-ups, especially at night
- Only one simulation speed, you have to be patient early in the city building process
- Only one expansion pack included
- No content editor (which allowed to create parks and edit existing buildings)
- No mod support

Installed this on my Xbox One yesterday. 2GB it said.
Makes no sense considering games was already around 6-7gb on Xbox 360.
Why would they compress it that much when they have a whole Blu-Ray disc of storage?

Looked quite OK though so I'm not sure it actually has a negative impact on the game that way, but... just got me very surprised.

It was never released on Xbox 360, it came out on PC first, two years ago, and it was around 2 GB too.

So, nothing is more compressed than the original, you must have confused it with another game.

I don't get it... Every piece of software should fill the disk?

Not something fans of this game genre on PC should be happy about I think, knowing what happened to FPS gaming after it got transfered from PC to consoles as main platform.. The games will be simplified for the lowest common denominator hardware and limited controls.. Also known as consolitus.. Just one example already mentioned in this article, only one simulation speed.. Now you only have to wait until stuff like that becomes standard in the game, also on PC..

In the end it's all about the money, and the consoles are a very big market.. So it will inevitably happen that they will try to get into that market with any type of game, even when not really suited for the platform..

I think you're jumping the gun a bit Inflatable. I believe they did pretty well on Steam. I don't know that the sequel is moving to a full on console game. Plus.. FPS has mostly healed from its COD and Halo wounds. We've moved on to new friends that started in the PC world of free to play.

About the game

What's up?

GriftGFX They've lost SOME of their key staff. Staff that they can replace as easily as farming out the game to some third party. (4 minutes ago)

  • KORNdog
KORNdog so why does it matter if they make the next one or not? it's like people being excited about rare making a new perfect dark when the people who made perfect dark 1 on the N64 are long gone. (28 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog and the mention of brands being popular is ironic seeing as that's all dev studio's are. valve today is nothing like valve when half life was being made. they've lost all of their key staff. (29 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog tbh as long as good developers are making good games i don't care what franchise people want to attach to them. hell, most devs would probably do a better job at half life than valve at this point. (31 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog and as for outsourceing half life, wasn't that what valve were going to do anyway. wasn't episode 4 (what happened to 3?) being developed by arkane? (32 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog @nostradamus: you actually have a point for a change. half life would actually need decent characters for naughty dog to be able to do anything with it. it may as well be a reboot. (38 minutes ago)
