The reports aren't looking good so far... too many low res textures (basically unaltered from previous non-HD versions) including the menu screens and frame rate issues in what's supposed to be a buttery-smooth 60fps experience.

Mind you I haven't yet heard anything about the PS3 version, perhaps it'll run a little smoother on there.

There's no problem with the framerate whatsoever. The only negative thing I can say about it is that the excellent mission mode is out, and if you haven't got the original Outrun 2 then you're missing out on the original 15 tracks.

Other than that, a fantastic, delightful, downright joyous game that you really ought to check out, especially at this price point.

Or even better, buy it on Steam, plug in a 360 joypad and you're away, at any resolution your gfx card can handle! That way you don't miss out on the extra tracks.

Does look nice though, they seem to have improved the cars a bit. And like it would run smoother on the PS3. Keep dreaming...

Gah, saving this place from pointless console banter is impossible when what you save on one side pours out on the other.

I just get fed up of people assuming that it'll be smoother/better/more sexy/less smelly on one console than the other. They're the fucking same!

There's this inane hope held by a lot of people that the PS3 will finally hit its stride, it's been how long? At the end of the day, they are just as good/smooth/sexy/un-smelly as each other. The sooner people realise this, the better these forums will be. Until then, your cup will always have a hole either side...

it looks like they've ripped a car model out of PGR4 and pasted it into a ridge racer 6 environment.

the review over at ign put me off the whole thing tho, online sounds terrible, which is kinda weird since that seems to be it's big selling point considering what it's called

I only played one game online so far, but I'd love to know what sounds so horrible about it. It seemed pretty a-okay to me.

The biggest gripe I have is with some of the textures. They are truly an eyesore. It's still a fantastic game though and well worth 800 points. Sure, Outrun is BC and sure you can always play the PC version.. but there's something appealing to me to having my Sega arcade racers ready for pick-up-and-go style play.

It's as fun as it's ever been to drive sideways. They should re-release RR6 as an arcade game too :)

RR6 would have an infinite price tag though, considering I've been playing that for basically the entirety of the 360s life cycle and I've still gotten absolutely nowhere in its Kim Basingergillion single player races.

And Korn, Outrun 2, which this is based off of, is an arcade game from 2003. Unless there's some contrieved Lost style time travel in jumpsuits going on, I think it'd be difficult to steal anything from PGR4 at that point.

The framerate issues don't occur online, that comes with it's own set of problems that are apparently being "looked at" by the developers. It's offline the framerate drops, and noticeably... when you encounter any traffic. It's been hiccuping badly enough to cause people to crash and now a friend of mine has just reported it to me as well which is enough to convince me it's there. Looks like I'm passing on this.

...and KORNdog wasn't accusing anyone of stealing car models, it said that's what it -looks like-.

Hn? I thought the PS3 already hit its stride with a string of great games releasing in a row? But what do I know? I own all three consoles so I couldn't tell you if a console is fun or what not. Oh wait, I can.

It's too bad Sumo/SEGA ripped so much of the content out of OutRun 2006 for this re-release. It's lost half it's tracks, most it's music, most of it's cars, and all of the mission mode. Still a fun game, but OutRun 2006 is vastly superior.

There is no denying that the PS3 is still struggling. Its sad, but its just because sony is making a lot of silly decisions, and I think they are flailing too hard. I love my PS3, and sony, but I think they could do things better. Their loosing the console race, but only just barely. Cause, ya kno, the Wii doesn't count. Sorry. But. Not a gaming console. Give me a bit more mad World and The Conduit and that one game with th BLOOOOOOD and the guy with a tube light bulb looking thing, then maybe. Anyway...

But the PS3 itself is a beautiful piece of technology, just like the 360 is.

I did not expect much from this game, but I have been playing it since Wednesday and I'm loving it. I have yet to experience any frame rate issues either.

Not true. Many multiplatform games perform better on one console than the other. I'm not hating on any particular platform because I own both... and a Wii. It's quite possible that the framerate hiccups are caused by the 360... it's obviously not intentional and we all know the PS3 is capable of some very smooth stuff (Burnout Paradise, Wipeout HD) so merely suggesting it might run smoother is perfectly reasonable. In fact the only reason I can think you'd be annoyed is because it just happens to make the console YOU own look ever so slightly negative in this one single instance.

This argument has no relevance here. While that may be the case for some games, this game was originally developed on regular Xbox with a low poly count and low res textures, which means that the 360 hardware is more than capable of running this smoothly. Any frame skips in this game are not due to hardware limitations, but probably lazy porting. (Which I still have yet to experience.) Claiming that this game will run smoother on PS3 or 360 is pointless because it's a last gen game that both current gen consoles are more than powerful enough to run smoothly if it is coded properly. Please take your off-topic debate to a more pertinent thread.

Exactly. ^^ (although you kind of added to the off-topicness, but hey...)

:o)

I grabbed this last night to have a play, it does look nice. I have to agree with DDR about the textures though, they do look bad in places, but usually only when you're stood still. Which thankfully, won't be very often thanks to the tried and trusted gameplay (which still rocks.)

pythxvii hit the nail on the head really.

Yeah, the car models in GT5 look great, but yeah, I know what you mean about the fun aspect being missing. I think being unable to go round corners faster than 10mph without the tires squealing endlessly is one of the things that's always pissed me off about it, plus the horrid menu music, licences (ARRGGHHHH!!!!), the fact it's so damned sterile, but I digress.

I understood what you meant about the PGR4 car being pasted in. The car models just look too flashy for the rest of the game assets.
