Interview PC Xbox 360 PS3

A few hours before the end of E3, the people at Ubisoft offered us 15 minutes with Patrice Desilets, the creative director of Assassin's Creed. I said "offered" because interviewing Patrice is always a real gift. He's a warm and passionate fellow. And he happens to be very talkative when it comes to Assassin's Creed 2, one of the biggest project ever created by Ubisoft, a game that must not disappoint the fans who have been eagerly expecting its release. Six million people played the first game two years ago. Surprisingly enough, Patrice Desilets doesn't seem to be under pressure at all. Relaxed and smiling, he tells us about all the new features of the game (get ready for some exclusive new info), about Da Vinci's role and relationship with Ezio or even about the importance of shower pommels in the creative process of the franchise. Assassin's Creed 2 will be released on November 17 this year and as for the interview, it's right here.

That explains the horrible mission structure, if you consider it being one, in the first one…

Good interview. It doesn't seem like they changed the mission structure much or at all... else the'd talk about it more.

I watched the IGN demonstration, and this Patrice fellow actually seems like a really cool guy who knows what he's talking about.

In the IGN demonstration, he said that they've completely scrapped it.

I got Ass Creed 1 with my sennheiser headphones back in September 2008. Didn't really want to install but I did back in Feb 2009 and played it for 2 hours or so before uninstalling it....

Ubisoft needs to stay away from open world games...last gen they made a ton of GREAT scripted/linear games like: Beyond Good and Evil, Splinter Cell 1, Pandora Tomorrow, Chaos Theory, Prince of Persia 1 etc. They should stick with linear games and leave the open world games to pro's like Rockstar North. Far Cry 2 was also terrible (I bought it for $60 through steam/stupid exchange rate!!!)

Very cautious about this

I for one loved the first AC . simple but cool and very nice story . From the start of the game i was waiting for the moment to get out of that room and explore the "present" world . Hope they make it come true in the second AC .

Can't wait

Did you watch the interview? That's not going to happen. At least not in AC2. As Patrice put it- "People don't buy the game to play as Desmond. They buy the game to play as the assasin, otherwise it would be called Desmond's Creed".

Despite the first one's shortcomings, I really enjoyed the overall experience it provided. This one is very high on my most wanted list.

So what?

It would still be really satisfying and could potentially make an amazing part in the story. Why avoid that just to keep it Assassin's Creed?

Because they already have Splinter Cell. I don't see why you would want to explore Desmond's world as it's just the real world and there isn't really anything for Desmond to do except run away if he left. The most I would even want to do is look around the the facility.

Great interview. While AC1 was repetitive I do think he's right in that a lot of people played the game too much like a game. If you took your time, explored, did some side quests, enjoyed the ambience and story then you likely had a lot better time/enjoyment from the game.
Sadly gamers these days are all about instant gratification with a "Disney" ending where all the loose ends are tied up and there is nothing to discuss or be excited for in a sequel.

I also miss videos like this where the discussion is purely on the game and having fun, instead of some agenda of the system wars. Again, this isn't the case much anymore, everyone has to defend their console of choice. Great interview.

Well we all know how bad first AC was, so no wonder. Bit like that another hottie "designer" behind latest alone in the dark travesty. Hot bitches sure get us nerds all exited, but perhaps they should hire actual game designers whit skill. Seems like they are doing jsut that whit AC2

I've seen an interview with her about Assassins Creed 2. She's said that she wants to take a 'back seat' and step away from the spotlight, as she felt that she was gaining too much attention from the first game. She's basically handing the beacon over to Patrice now, but she is still involved in the AC franchise.

Great interview! Thanks again, Snoopers for providing not just typical gameplay vids that offer no context but good source material to gather a better vision of where a game is coming from and where it's moving towards! This is why I *love* Gamersyde!!!
