Microsoft and Epic released the first trailer of Gears of War 3, as always very classy, with an anticipated release date of April 8 2011.

LONDON – 13 April 2010 - The spectacular conclusion to one of the games industry’s most memorable and celebrated sagas, “Gears of War 3,” is poised to take the world by storm next spring. At this time next year, fans around the world will experience the epic story finale to the “Gears of War” trilogy when the third instalment in one of the biggest franchises in Xbox history arrives in stores April 8, 2011 in Europe.

“When we released ‘Gears of War’ more than three years ago, we set out to tell the world an unforgettable story of bravery and sacrifice in the face of insurmountable odds, and a year from now, players will get the chance to experience the final chapter in the story of Marcus Fenix and his companions in Delta Squad,” said Cliff Bleszinski, Design Director at Epic Games. “This is definitely the biggest and most dramatic chapter yet in the ‘Gears of War’ saga, and we can’t wait to deliver it.”

Developed by acclaimed studio Epic Games and available only on Xbox 360, “Gears of War 3” plunges players into a harrowing tale of hope, survival, and brotherhood that will conclude the current story arc for “Gears of War.” With the last human city destroyed and the remaining survivors stranded, time is running out for Marcus and his comrades as they fight to save the human race from the jaws of extinction.

“Gears of War” is a blockbuster entertainment franchise that has inspired a full line of toys and collectibles, apparel, an upcoming film, graphic novels and a book series by New York Times best-selling author Karen Traviss. The award-winning video games have sold more than 12 million units worldwide, and due to their riveting multiplayer action, are some of the most popular games ever played on Xbox LIVE.

To accompany today’s announcement, Microsoft and Epic Games unveiled “Ashes to Ashes”, the first trailer for “Gears of War 3.” Created in Unreal Engine 3 by the same team behind the iconic “Gears of War” video spots (“Mad World,” “Rendezvous,” and “Last Day”), the video captures a desperate three-way battle between Delta Squad, the Locust Horde, and the fearsome new Lambent.

Additionally, fans who want to share their excitement on Xbox LIVE will be able to choose from new Avatar items, available on Avatar Marketplace starting April 20, including the new COG armor introduced in “Gears of War 3.”

stylish Trailer:

graphics are nothing special...

but the rest is state of the art: like the other Gears of War Trailer: Last day and Madworld, this Trailer is different and thats good!

true, the graphics are not special at all but when it comes to the story, already I'm curious how they'll end the war machinery

how can you tell the graphics? these probably arent even in game :| the games out next year...

not to mention the trailer is in a dark place. i cant believe you 2 are even judging the graphics lol this trailer is about givin you an idea of what will be in the game like female COGs, double barrel shotgun, new enemies and new dom

4 player CO-OP in this game too! unbelievable

I just hope multiplayer works out of the box this time, with all the bugs and shitty matchmaking implementation of 2 i never gave the multiplayer a proper chance. Within a week it had lost me for good and i've never went back even though i loved the MP in the first game.

How very inappropriate. I get the feeling they're trying to imply an emotional deep-digging story, while there really is none. I mean, there is a story, but I really didn't give a crap about it. The game will be cool no doubt though.

why are people all about co-op? I still think the best games are played alone. anyway i hope the online is some what better than gears 2.... maybe let us pick rooms/ severs now like gears 1. cant wait.... now to get to rank 100 online :D

You'll find that most of the posters on this site like to find things to moan about. (me included sometimes) Thankfully there aren't any jaggies or all hell would of broken loose :)

disappointing it wasn't gameplay..but that was pretty much a given with Gear's reveals.

I hope this one's better written. They made a big thing about the improved story structure of the second.. forcing personalitys in characters that, though iconic looking, offer little in the way of personality. They really need to get some professional writers on board, and learn how to pace a game better with it's narrative.

One thing that the trailer does atleast confirm is that cover wont be the lasting safe haven anymore with those tenticle things. Hopefully 4 player co-op is on board too

awesome choice of music, game looks very much like gears so no real surprise there. it's so desaturated that i may as well be black and white tho.

i agree with bleaches tho, they made a big deal about the story in the second and it was frankly, rubbish. hopefully they get it right this time around.

Gears doesn't need ''Oscar worthy'' story as some other games.
Give me as good campaign as Gears2 (up to 4 players confirmed - hell yeah), updated Horde mode - bigger maps + bosses. And this thing will be well worth the 60 bucks for me. :P
Good trailer. Better than crappy reveal teaser for previous game.

Pretty uninspiring trailer. Not that it was bad, but it's a pretty bog standard trailer; think up a simple set piece, slap on some popular music... BAM, trailer.

I for one prefer single player, but gears on your own is some boring shit gears of war 2 was a lot better on your own, but in CoOp with some one who is massively into it all and wont talk during cut scenes etc is unbeatable.

i agree, i didnt even play the second one on my own, not enough interest in the games to do it. in co-op tho i'll happily play through it. the same will be the case for gears 3. rent it, run through it in co-op, have a blast, and be done with it.

Gears 3 will rock so hard, and i have no doubt it will look amazing when released, Gears 2 is still the best action experience i have had in a game and i hope Gears 3 is even bigger better and more badass!! :)

The campaign in Gears 2 was sheer awesome. The story was meh, but the whole package had the feeling of a brainless 90s action-movie...which is a good thing....every now and then...

Too bad the "gameplay" was never as in your face or crazy as in the first, too much focus on setpieces and gimmicks to traverse levels like the centaurm and betty.

i just ask a middle ground for the best hardcore shooter IP around.

horrible trailer in terms of design. Such dramatic scenes just wont ever fit Gears. Same like Dom and his "Mariaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah" stuff in GoW2.


Looking forward to horde mode and Co-op campaign. Multiplayer will be glitched like hell anyway...

But atleast Dom's got a beard now - hell yeah!! i got chills!!! lol

I have no idea how they can save the gear's story now from not indulging in cheese.. will take somebody talented, but i don't think it's their true focus anyway. I'm surprised the Crysis 2 writers not bad mouthed the story yet - he's jumping on every other game (foolishly)

I just hope the visual's are consistant this time round. Gears 2 flip flopped between looking mouth openingly awesome..to looking very meh. Gears has always been a tool to sell the engine on as much as a solid franchise. Hopefully they'll go all out on what must be Epics last push using it
