Rise of the Argonauts launch trailer

Codemasters' Rise of the Argonauts is kind of released today. For some reason UK will have to wait until February next year, while rest of Europe can buy it today and the US next week. I'm not completely sure what's going on in this trailer with the graphics, some segments in the video looks pretty bad.

Rise of the Argonauts immerses players in a gladiatorial adventure set in a wondrously imagined vision of ancient Greece. Taking the role of Jason, a hero and expert warrior, players will battle alongside Hercules, Achilles, Atalanta and other Argonauts as they engage in brutal combat against formidable beasts and enemies, in a vast world alive with fickle gods, jaw-dropping panoramas, deep exploration and epic quests. The search for the Golden Fleece is not only one of exploration, but of transformation: from warrior king to exalted hero touched by the gods.

Oh my God. Those voice actors are terrible. Graphic wise I'm not sure what it should look like, but to me it's ugly and outdated

WTF? why so late for UK? its like silent hill homecoming, US got it months ago, we get it 9th of feb. im not exactly bothered since i think this game looks like crap. but its still weird cionsidering the rest of europe get it today

Oh my, it looks really bad, VO is bad too. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure God of War 2 in HD mode looks better...

Gameplay look very unorganized.

I'll just paste my post from another forum.

Unfortunatelly this game is one of the worst if not the worst i've played on x360. Animation, collisions, framerate, graphics, gameplay and voice acting reminds me of poor xbox games. Gameplay is based on walking on awful...( and i mean it) maps talking to npc all over again. From time to time U've a chance to kill some foes then Ur back to walkin i circles. . Im not even sure if im going to torture myself playing this game to the very end. After playing this crap for about 2-3hrs I'd rate it 2/10. Nuff said.

Good things ? Perhaps music score aint bad but thats all.

EDIT. IM almost at the end ( i guess ) and last 30 min was much better mainly because U can actually fight more. Whats more story itself is really good but its not enough to make a good game.

Seriously, there is no excuse for a game to look this bad in this day and time. There aren't many limitations with game visuals that could keep them from looking descent enough to warrant a $60 price. The only thing to blame is poor art direction. I didn't even know that the game had been released here and the U.S., and perhaps nobody cared. Ughh.

Sure looks bad... But when it get's very very(and I mean VERY) cheap, then I might buy this. I don't know why but I got a weakness for games with swords:D

I really like the setting, but could this game come out at a worse time? Wait until January or February when there aren't as many releases.

Seems t me that you don't even grasp the concept of a graphics engine. The engine provides the technology, the artists do the rest. A game looking like shit using the Unreal 3 engine does so solely based on shitty artists and programmers on the team developing the game.

I think the idea is to always modify it a lot correct?

Also Batman doesn't look that great YET. We'll see

i don't understand why everyone is ragging on the voice acting. i think it's actually pretty good. the game takes place in ancient greece and this is how they spoke, masculine, royal, and majestic like. the voice acting is definitely above average compared to some other games like Infinite Undiscovery (which was mind-cringingly corny and awkward, i had to stop playing in the first 30 minutes cuz the voice acting was so bad).

i've had my hands on the game for a week now and it's pretty good so far. i agree that the graphics are not up to par considering its for a next-gen system but the story seems pretty interesting. i like the fact that there's a skill tree and when you change your gear, it actually looks different. the combat is a bit clunky and there are some collision problems along with some other minor technical problems i can't remember right now. it'll probably get a 7-8 average score.

I'm going to just have to play this. People pretty much hated what little they played of Conan, but I rented it and loved every second of it. It was super cheesy and clearly downright bad in parts, but it also had combat that's second to Ninja Gaiden in my opinion. Maybe this game'll be the same kind of deal..?

I agree that conan was severely underrated; at least half of it was really nice. The combat was NOT in the same league as NG though (maybe it could have been but really, after half the game the balance is so screwed up that it's just not good anymore) ;)

As for this...i played a bit of it and i can't say that i'm at all impressed with what i saw. The graphics were pretty mediocre, the combat was incredibly boring and the story just seems bland.

I didn't say it was in the same league as NG, but second to it for me. It just felt much more visceral and weighty than the combat in something like God of War, which I absolutely loved as well. Dual-wielding swords and hacking a dude's arms off felt great.
