Very good question..either wishful thinking, pre-cognitive slip, subtle hint, or honest mistake.

I'm more likely to get my wish of a toothless philipino lady sat underneath my desk at work than sega ever making another Shenmue. Sad but true...

despite loving shenmue, i'm kinda glad they're not making a third. yakuza is shenmue+ as far as i'm concerned, it's got the story, the character, the charm, similar "living city" feel, the minigames etc, only the gameplay is actually fun and involved. you dont spend hours looking for sailors, you dont have to endure the tedium that is a shenmue conversation, and generally, yakuza is a lot better.

shenmue for me is just a fond memory, but i have a feeling if i tried it now it wouldnt feel at all as good as it did back then.

Nostalgia is a blessing and a curse, all rolled into one.

This game does look rather nice, but fails for me on two counts:

1) They'll only release it in Japan

2) I don't have a PS3 anyway

So really, Shenmue 3 is my only hope. Sob...

:o)

Too bad the the game looks like Yakuza 2 in HD, when the In-game gameplay starts, and the cutscene ends.

hmm, whats with the facial models love gamersyde? uncharted 2 and heavenly sword are miles better and they don't look any better than other games in all fairness. I'm not saying the game looks bad graphically people just to let you know.....

I hate you Sega, I hate you! The only game you have worth talking about, and you can't release it outside Japan!?!!?

I can't believe it.

Believe me Yakuza 3 was far beyond yakuza 1+2, you won't be able to tell unless you've played it.

He didn't say they were better, he just said that it was also good. No need to be all jumpy.

Yeah, I can't even remember the story now. Somebody died I think. I don't know. Tedium.
It blew my mind at the time though.

It must pain somebody who worked on the game to let a story go unfinished like that , though. They could at least release a short story on the networks for us to read.
(I never even played the second game so that wouldn't help me much)

I just must comment on these...

I just started the game again on Dreamcast. All I can tell, that everything that felt great back then, just feels great again. Even better, you are constantly being reminded why you loved the game at the first time. The mood of the places like Sakuragaoka, Dobuita and Yamanose. Naming a cat. Playing Hang On and Space Harrier with your Sega Saturn at Hazuki Dojo. The music. Exciting quick timer events and actual free fighting. That quy that says: "Shut the hell up. Who in the hell are you, eh? You don't shut the hell up, I make you wish you had." I am looking forward for things to come like the forklift and that very special motorbike ride with amazing music.

That was just a small amount of things that are good in the first Shenmue. Shenmue 2 also has some very nice moments.

I´m sure if Yakuza 3 and 4 had subtitles, it would sell a shitload of copies in the West. I would even import it, if the original had subs.

Very over rated game but the character models do look good. If this or the 3rd came out in the Uk i might pick it up cheap.

It is a lovely game (although it did start getting scary with the compulsion to phone Nozomi all the time...)

No one has answered the 360 question though. Answers anyone? Blim?

Mistake on Blims part. Its PS3 only and most likely Japan only[if so that makes even less chance of a 360 version]

Yup, last year I played through Shenmue 1 + 2, and they are still extremely enjoyable. The only weak points are the way you work in the second game (carrying boxes, lol--"right, right, left").

Carrying boxes and yelling at passers-by and competing against them in a game of chance are certainly unique ways to earn money in Shenmue 2. But they are really quite difficult and so slow. It is good that there are also so many other gambling possibilities. Saving when that jackpot comes is recommendable. :)

Come to think of it, the scale of Shenmue 2 is really huge. I have gone through it on Dreamcast and Xbox. Maybe next time I will go through it on Xbox 360.

There is a quite nice Shenmue 3 appeal video on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQEya390qz0

This game (and I'm inclined to avoid thinking of it as a mere "game", to be honest) looks astonishingly lifelike and authentic. Granted, things like storytelling, dialogue and plot may not be up to par with say a good film or what not, but I suppose that's the beauty of it being a game.
