Oddworld Inhabitants and Just Add Water have put online three new screens of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD. The game should be available to download on the PSN later this year.
Not really any excuse for no anti-aliasing on PS3 now - MLAA has been part of the ARC libraries for quite some time now. It runs on the SPUs which I can't imagine an old game like this really has much use for.
Other than that, it looks nice enough given it's vintage, and it should still be an excellent game.
Screens are pretty shitty, in terms of everything really, namely whats actually goin on, or not as the case is here. Kinda bland screenshots. But i cant wait for this. One of my fave games on the original xbox and i was gutted that it never received the recognition it deserves, or that ms didnt make it backwards compatible for the 360.
They've made progress with MS too apparently. Lorne himself had to get involved. Apparently if it happens it'll come a month after the PS3 version.
It'll was delayed from april, but they said they'll be offering muches oddysee and the previous PC released oddbox when it does arrive, which is pretty awesome.. Also heard about them bringing back the previously canned oddworld themed god game?
Seriously? That is HD? Come on, they could have at least thrown some AA in there. With such an old game not taking much resources there should be lots of bandwidth left for some AA. I'm also not sold on these so called HD remakes anymore after seeing the wonderful work they've done with Halo Anniversary. Now THAT is a remake. Carbon copy of the original design and gameplay with modern graphics and then some. Simply bumping up the resolution in these remakes is unacceptable to me now.
I'd like to be more impressed, but I played the original a lot and it wasn't nearly as good as it should have been. I liked it more than Munch but nowhere near as much as Abe. The world you got to see/live/play with the processing plant was SO much more interesting and charming and threatening than Munch's bland world and Stranger's extremely removed from anything Oddworld world. The HD looks fine, I just don't remember anything great about the game- what little I do remember. I remember the fun of choosing the right ammo pets- but mostly I remember it being a lot of open world with nothing going on and frustrating trial/error gunplay.
Stranger's Wrath was for me one of THE best gaming experiences I have ever had. It's been ages since I played the original but I'll def be looking forward to this one. Gotta admit for an HD "remake" the screenshots are a bit....iffy.....but I'm not a graphics whore by any means and this game delivered in gameplay and story.

They've more then trippled the poly count on all characters, they've up'd the texture res, and they've more then trippled the bitrate of the sound. This aint just a resolution increase...not by any stretch.

but in the end, it looks like complete and utter crap. Better off with a OG Xbox in a good old CRT Screen.
heck I've played the normal game on steam lately, sure it looks pretty bad by todays standards but it's still completely playable and one hell of an experience for once I'm with korny boy here it was one my favorite games on the original xbox and was eagerly anticipating a BC on 360 for it but my wishes weren't to be ever met =(. It is a massive shame it's one the games that never got lost and never sold remarkably well like it should of even though it got good ratings.
Why the hell would they triple the bitrate on the sound? I smell BS. As for AA... we're looking at screenshots, AA is post-processing. Use yer freakin' minds. This website is getting worse by the hour.

Did you not HEAR the sound quality of the original. It was like it was recorded with the cheapest microphone in existence. Hence them getting the origial sound files and using the higher bitrate versions for the HD remake.
Now when it comes out people will be able to play it (since nobody did the first time) and they won't have EA as an excuse on how "meh" the game is (was).

the game failed due to EA not advertising it because the dev refused to go multi platform.
And the game was never meh.
