Just two weeks from its release on XBLA, PSN and Wii, Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I gets unveiled a bit more with this trailer.

Looks like a mix af all the classic 2d Sonic games. Can't wait for this to be on xbla, I love the classic sonic games! Too bad they're milking the cow releasing it in episodes :(

That's the thing that puts me off at this point, how much gameplay time is in each episode seems to be something Sega are unwilling to say out loud.

a few things still bother me about this...

firstly, i'm having trouble seeing the reason for sonic to be a 3D model at all when a HD sprite would have been just as good, if not better. it would have maybe even rectified that floatyness that you can clearly see in the trailer. plus a few of the slightly weirder animations, like the jump.

secondly, as andrezunido mentioned. the fact it's episodic is kinda killer imo. i'm at least hoping each episode is the length of sonic 2 or something but i doubt it.

and the major thing that bothers me is the lock-on targeting. why do they think we're incapable of jumping on the enemies heads like we could do 15 years ago? why does that lock-on attrack even exist?

other then those admitidly major things, i think it looks good.

Went to the booth at PAX. All of the issues KORNdog mentioned were certainly major, other than the 3D model. It's a modern game. It isn't 2D Sonic, deal with it. This isn't "lets remake oldschool sonic" it's "lets bring old school sonic back". But it didn't feel right, the lock on was not only useless, but it actually made things more difficult at times when it simply didn't understand what the user wanted it to do. And the level design just seemed really really poor. There seemed to be paths that went to know where and maybe could have gone on further but after way too much trying one couldn't seem to get past there, and it wasn't particularly clear if you were supposed to be able to or not. All in all, I don't think this will be a very good.

As for the length issue, considering the length of the only /good/ sonic games, it won't be hard to outdo that with episodic content.

Sonic still looks like poo to me. If the animator doesn't know what to do, then he should just look at sonic 2. Perfect. Sonic looks awkward, which is a pretty big deal...
