For what reason? The lighting and the textures, bar picture 1, look incredible. Check out the last batch of shots too, I think they are better than some of these.
The game actually looks fun too. It's mostly 2.5D from what I can tell and it goes in to 3D sections throughout the stage, a la what the DS Sonic Rush games did from time to time. It's nice to see them going back to their roots and not trying to tack on all sorts of extra crap that we just plain don't need, like crappy friends and side missions.
Is this a ON RAILS GAME? if not why so the need for the speed bar?
& like the other ones said... i mind gettin the dreamcast one XMAS with sonic for it... I think thats the last time i got hyped about play a sonic game :(

Ok, classic gameplay = cheap game for you? That is a terrible mindset, my friend. This Sonic game looks like it'll actually be fun, unlike the last one. Maybe you're not a fan of the old games, but I for one love classic games with a visual remake.
I would also love a 100% 2D Sonic game, d00d. Creating a quality 2D game is more time consuming than a 2.5D game, which is why no one does it. That and a lot of people don't care for it, sadly.

The Sonic Advance, and the Sonic Rush games (to a degree) all played completely 2D, but they still weren't any good. The gameplay involves nothing more than holding right to move as fast as you can to the end of the level, while occasionally pressing A to jump.
I'm not sure where the idea that the Sonic games should be all about speed came from, but the original games didn't play anything like that, they were fun due to their great level design, not the speed or gimmicky features and annoying characters.
While this does look an improvement over their past few attempts, that isn't saying much, and I'm not holding out any hope for this to be Sonic's redemption, the same thing has been said about every big Sonic game released for years, and they've only proved that they can make crappier and crappier games.

No, not me. I though I was clear about that, but maybe not.
I agree with everything you said. Sonic Unleashed looks awesome and hopefully it plays much better than the last horrible one. And I would gladly pay $60 for a good next-gen (this-gen) 2D Sonic game. And yeah, I am a fan of the old games but I guess our friend bleachedsmiles isn't. :)

I agree, man, the old games had both speed and fun level design. The advance and rush games weren't so bad for me, but for sure didn't compare to the old hits. Actually, I really enjoyed rush. Anway, a new console game going back to the old formula was what I was waiting for, and I sure hope this game unleashed won't be gimmicky or empty feeling.
