That's funny, 'cause it looks mediocre compared to Chaos Theory.

I like the fact that the story is a LOT more personal. This is the problem with these kind of franchises. you always get this whole big government kind of mess but the characters are completely cast aside. This looks like it's doing the right thing, at least for me personally.

I'll miss the banter between Sam and Lambert.

I've loved the stories in all the SC games.

I do hope the next game goes back in time. Playing as a younger Sam in a lower tech time period would be very interesting.

You're just saying that because you havent seen much gameplay of the game. The story looks pretty deep when you think about it. All we need to see is this multiplayer mode they are hiding from us.

Grim her name is grim, and she's been in all of the SC games before DA.

-story seems weak revenge for daughter enuff? now this corrupt leader that does bad for the good...chaos theroy was a high note to end this on...
-Grim back only remember her voice in the beginning of the series other then that it was usually Lambert saying "dear god fisher the mission is over"
-expect a lot since it from the team that made of SC1 and SC:CT if I'm not mistaken...hope for the best Double Agent was weak...

She was in DA too wasn't she? I could be confusing the 360/Xbox versions here but I'm pretty sure she's in one of them.

Awesome to see her "in person" finally.. one of the most memorable character interactions in Splinter Cell (which granted isn't saying much) is between her and Sam in Chaos Theory when he realises how much older he is when she assumes "hi fi" means "high in fiber". I laughed out loud at that whole "Sam, you're old" series of dialogue snippets during the heist mission. :D

-The story wasn't exactly spectacular in the first 3 games either though. It was normally a large convoluted conspiracy in which any character development and emotion was squashed through dribble. This is a different take for a story so although it's weak in standard to other games it's probably a high point of the SC series.

-She was in Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory. In DA it was a girl from JBA that kept updating you. And Lambert's line was a classic. haha. Sad that it won't be in this one.

-Ditto. Double Agent was a low point in the series but if AC2 came back from what AC1 got wrong I see hope that Ubi Montreal is finally getting a grip this gen.

360 DA and Xbox DA are completely different games. They only loosely follow the same story (ie. 360 DA tells it terribly and is vague to the point where things only barely have context) and there is some overlap in the basic premise of the missions.

I'm not sure which version this follows on from. In terms of the "canon" you'd think Ubisoft Montreal are the guys that'd establish that stuff, and they made the Xbox version. Shanghai went to town on the 360 version and came out with something barely resembling the original.

@SimonM7
I did not know that. I played the PC (7th gen) version and found it horrid. Did you play the original 6th gen version? It sounds like that was the better one and I might just pick it up before this game comes out.

Yeah I played both. I played the 360 version first and was deeply disappointed and then found out through then-awesome Gamespot that the Xbox version was totally worth checking out.

It is a much, much tighter experience that spends more time being a beautifully playable Splinter Cell game and less time having you "cinematically walk around between each mission", and does away completely with the awkward daylight missions. There are still "double agent" missions in the JBA HQ, but those are normal Splinter Cell missions and just as enjoyable as the rest of the game.

It looks stunning, running backwards compatible on the 360 too. The only difficulty right now is actually finding a copy of it. Coming out so late on the Xbox, they seem to exist in limited print, at least around these (europe) parts.

Huh. Thanks for the info man. I appreciate it greatly. Time to do some hunting around here for the Xbox version. Chaos Theory in my mind is still one of the best looking games. Sure it's not a technical marvel in comparison to the games out now but something about the color palette, art style and glisten on objects really makes it pleasing to look at.

Despite the fact that I really enjoyed Splinter Cell 1-3, I have to say that the stories in those parts were ONLY driven by disgusting patriot rubbish.

Almost too much to bare for non-americans...almost

Has anyone played Conviction yet? Looks like there are some serious tearing issues going on.
