TGS06: Lair gameplay

TGS06: Lair gameplay

Yet another small game to be released on PS3, Lair is finally playable and as you can see, it looks really great. With just some polish on the framerate it could be one ig PS3 killer-app.

Good god... what are they even thinking bringing this to 1080p quality is suffering I think.

It doesn't look too good, the water looks really nice everything else just isn't sinking in at all. The gameplay doesn't look that fun to be honest and the environments I think could look better. Devs need to make their games at 720p 1080p really isn't worth it.

Uuuhhh... This looks really nice. There are some things that could be better, but overall it's really impressive.

the person playing it seemed to be controlling it like a blind person, is it hard to control or something?

look great though in my opinion graphics wise at least i expected a bit more of the aerial combat though as the cgi promo showed jumping off your dragon onto another one etc...

that features if you check the ign footage...one thying im hoping for is more individualistic movement from the troops, you can see they are detailed, but they move around too basically

Looks terrible.

I like the speed you can kick up with the dragon, but the fire effects look weak, except that there's plenty of it.

It's a huge downgrade - the graphics are only decent now.

its got some time until release, but i think these games aiming for 1080p are cutting detail to do it, i dont see the point 1% of people own 1080p tv's

I'm going to have to agree 100%. Drop the games to 720p. Resolution is great and all, but if you don't have all the details to show it off, it just doesn't make sense.

Better to improve the actual graphics, and THEN shoot for 1080p. No sense in having the resolution restrict the quality of the graphics.

The thing is it still looks excellent...even if the shiny surfaces look jarring

Optimusv2 and chapter_house,

The game itself, according to Factor 5, is only 35% complete. According to some of the interviews, they have only been working with 1080p for a couple of months. You can't expect them to have a highly polished game, being shown on the floor, at 35% completion without problems.

They have more than enough time to find out what works and does not work by the time they release this product next year. For the state the game is in now, it is damned impressive.

EDIT:
From an IGN Interview:
IGN: What are your thoughts on 1080p? You're rendering some stuff out at that resolution now, do you think it's necessary for games to be standardized as 1080p and is it doable?

Eggebrecht: First of all, we are not only rendering some part of Lair in 1080p. The whole game is in 1080p native, from front-end to all in-game bits.

We absolutely love 1080p because of the detail that you can see. When we went up from 720 to 1080 I was blown away how much more of the artwork was visible. We started out being true 720p proponents, but since switching over to true 1080p via HDMI a few months ago I can't go back.

I remember seeing those first few videos. The game looked exciting. Awesome even. But this is just plain boring. I almost fell asleep watching it

  • alimokrane
alimokrane @asdfg: I wasnt talking about ALL gamers, I was talking to KORNdog. Way to go generalizing. No wonder the world is doing so well with everyone generalizing! (10 Hours ago)
  • Melmoth
Melmoth and often not that, but just 1 number encompassing all reviews (metacritic) (10 Hours ago)
  • Melmoth
Melmoth i don't many people actually read the reviews, they just look at that number in the bottom right corner :D (10 Hours ago)
  • asdfg
asdfg @alimokrane: every gamer reads reviews? That must be why it's going so well for video game media... (10 Hours ago)
  • Moonwalker
Moonwalker @Sdarts: Haven't read Berserk yet but did see the first anime and loved it. The new one is filth sadly :( (17 Hours ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog sometimes i like to know how long a game is too to gauge the value proposition, but that's easily obtainable information that does not require a review. (17 Hours ago)
