PS3

Let's start our Sony Lounge videos with some tasty Wipeout HD footage, my little 60fps sweet. A lot of work has been achieved on the technical level with nifty graphics and an impressive framerate. YUMMY!
More info about that sympathetic lounge right here.
Update: Second gameplay video on another track added, still in 60 fps.

the contrast between light and shadow makes the game look almost cel-shaded...i like it. seems to be back to its old self too...non of this "fusion" crap.

I can only imagine how crisp and clean this looks on a 50inch plasma at 1080p. Looks slick.

Thanks for the info and the video.

Does look even better now. The vehicles have a nice sheen on them I didn't see in previous trailers, and this shows gameplay without skipping around a lot so it gives a good idea of what the game is really like.

I was pretty much hoping this series and this type of racer was done for. I never liked Wipeout or ever understood what the fuss was all about.

The concepts of "futuristic racers" have always been poorly executed IMO. Futuristic racers like Wipeout have always been about eye candy and only associated with showcasing graphics at console launches.

Traditionally after the launch both gamers and developers forget about these types of racers and for the most part you don't see or hear about them until a new wave of next gen consoles arrive. Which would suit me just fine because these things rarely ever presented a challenge.

I remember reading about a game studio years ago that was supposed to be working on a "space racer". The tracks were supposed to consist of runs through asteroid belts, nebulas and planet atmospheres that effected your ship during the courses. I thought that was an interesting take on the whole "future racer" genre but I think the studio that was developing the game closed it's doors.

I'm glad you have no influence over the gaming industry. Futuristic racing games like Wipeout and F Zero are some of the best racing games, and the newer F Zero games are about the furthest thing from 'eye candy' games as possible.

Yep. Try taking a craft around one of those twisty tracks in the highest speed class... it takes an exraordinary amount of skill to be fast... certainly one of the deepest arcade racers out there, better than any other futuristic racer and many a regular racer, and much much more than just a graphical showcase. Wipeout on the PSP was one of the best games ever, on ANY console.

I hope there's deep customization on the hovercraft. It'll help you stand out in online multiplayer.

Didn't mean to offend, I'm just not a fan of futuristic racers or see the need for the genre to continue.

. I agree

Plus.. why would someone want a genre to end simply because they don't enjoy it? A little selfish, don't you think?

Oh man this is looking great! I'll definitely have to pick up a PS3 now. Wipeout on PSP is loads of fun, and this looks like it will be, too. This is the only racing game where I get a little overboard in shooting for faster lap times.
