Xbox 360

I've finally gotten after a few weeks of delay my shipment of three 360 games for my japanese system. Let's start with Bullet Witch, a game developed by Cavia and it shows. You know something's wrong when the very first playable scene of a game is already full of slowdowns. The game isn't ugly, far from it in fact with some cool lighting effect, but it's full of graphical glitches, especially the shadows. The gameplay isn't great either, but not totally bad too. It's just more difficult that it should be to get the ennemies in the center of the visor, and it's usually simpler to just go straight to them than to strafe around. Not a completely bad game, not a good one, just very average.

For some reason it was very difficult to encode this video with a correct bitrate, so I had to cut the 720p version more than I usually do. It only shows the gameplay part, without the prerendered cutscene.

asia version, nice.

I really am looking forward to this game, looks like it's got a cool balance of mindless shooting and strategic use of magic abilities, plus it's got that "omg that freakin monster is HUGE" feeling, and an epic viewpoiint behind the main character.

wow...expected a better review for this. But if BlimBlim says its just "average" I take it this game sucks. And wtf is up with her gun? It looks like a rake.

If I say it's average, then maybe it's hu... well... average? I try to be fair with games, and Bullet Witch has got some redeeming qualities (ok physics, some big bosses in later stages, some very nice lighting from time to time) that make it worth taking a look at. Let's hope the US/PAL version will be reworked enough to correct the biggest issues, especially the targeting.

It seems to suffer from minor problems that prevent it from being quite a bit better. Cavia had problems during development didn't they?

Shame, because the story seems good and the graphics are certainly impressive.

Just goes to establish the fact that you need to see games running this gen.

With Atari being the publisher of both the US/PAL versions, I wouldnt count on it but if they were to do it then I really hope they would at least fix the framerate issues cauz it looks like it could be really really annoying.

Atari said the game would be significantly retooled for release in here, which is why it won't be out until 2007.

They did? That is pretty encouraging. Hopefully they'll use the reviews as a base for the changes instead of just Americanizing it.

Contrary to what play-asia announced, there are no english subs, and even less audio of course.

I've already played through most of it. Yeah it looks good but it's still very glitchy. Since it's at night the shadows are less annoying ;)

Aside from some minor slowdowns, which didn't seem too bad, and the terrible aiming system, the game actually looks really fun.

Ive had the game since JPN launch and have been very impressed with it personally. Most people I know who bought the game badmouthed it at first but then came around in the end due to the later stages being infinantly better then the first 2.

The aiming system took me a few levels to adjust too, but once you get the hang of it its extremely easy to run n gun your way around levels using magic on the fly. I never noticed any slowdown either, shadows were a bit off but I guess im more tolerant then many with them since I tend to ignore them on all games.

Overall though Im probably happier with bulletwitch then any other title on my 360s.(26 games across 2 regions) I will say it was way to short though. 6 levels is nowhere near enough, you can clear the game in 3 hours if your good. 5 hours if your terrible.

Funny you should say that, because I'm having a similar experience with my games. Out of the 15'ish I own I've had the most fun with Perfect Dark Zero, The Outfit and Full Auto - games that are considered some of the weakest on the platform. It's consistently true, even, and it's actually the critically acclaimed games that have frustrated me with their lack of variety and value.

Odd. Genuinely, from the bottom of my heart - odd!

Yeah I hate most of the critically acclaimed games. I enjoy PDZ0 the most. To me GRAW is complete garbage. I want to get Chromehounds and Dead Rising.

I have to say I like the way the city feels and the physics. Couple bad things are the AI and the aiming. Didnt notice the framerate drop too low.

I like when you called the lighting to destroy the gas station. A huge piece of rock almost fell on you.

It's really a damn shame that with all this power from a next gen console, we still have developers rushing titles and testing IPs on our system. I was trying to put launch titles and their obvious flaws behind me because that's what you get when you have a launch. Well this aint no launch title, and it's not like the developers were unaware of the problems that Blim mentioned. Now I don't have a problem with developers and new IPs, but I do have a problem with the lack of quality from a number of next gen games to go along with that next gen price tag. Slow down, framerate, and targeting problems; what gives? No one pressured these guys to release this title, so these problems are unacceptable. Developers are becoming outright lazy. The 360 is supposed to be an easy development enviroment with great tools. I didn't get too much of this sH!!t on the original Xbox. You can say that I'm bitching too much, but this kind of stuff is becoming a trend.

Now that you guys mentioned it, i noticed that after Oblivion i enjoyed PDZ0 the most also. Sure, the character models kinda sucked but look at the textures! They were the most hi-res textures i've seen in any game. Most of other xbox360 games have crap enviroment textures. In PDZ0 you could go right nex to a wall and even zoom at it and it would still look good. Also the gameplay wasn't bad. I just loved the second last map, that bridge thingy.
