The First 10 Minutes: Civilization

The First 10 Minutes: Civilization

2K Games released Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution little less than a month ago in Europe, but it hit the American stores today - so here are the first 10 minutes of the game. We got the copy a little bit late. The video shows the first part of the game as Julius Caesar, while the demo many of you played lets you pick between two other characters.

As you see in the start of the video, the game offers you to pick between a wide variation between many rulers throughout the history. You start the game on a different place everytime you start up a new career, and then proceed to do whatever you want. You can win a battle in many different ways, like advancing in technology or fighting opponents.

The game has been out for so long that many of you interested in it has already played the hell out of it, but don't forget that you can download the demo on PSN and the Marketplace if you want to play it after seeing this video.

Each game is quite short compared to the PC version, but there's still tons of replayability and it's possibly the best console strategy game out there right now.

Highly recommended from here! I love it. I mean I love the depth of the PC games but this is PERFECT for a console game.

This isn't what I expected all all. The maps are too damn small and I understand that the average game is plowed through in just under 2 hours. That's just unacceptable for a game like this.

I don't think I'll be getting this at all. I'll just wait for the PC version's Colonization expansion.

you know people keep saying that...

but is it only me that gets a nasty feeling after devoting 8-10 hours to a single skirmish battle? i mean i played sins of the solar empire, and had to erase it after a day because i felt like if i kept it my life would dissolve into nothingness beyond me in the game, the original civ left me with that feeling as well lol.

2 hours per map how is that a bad thing, do you really like sitting in a location for 8-10 hours for a single map? i mean god guys get a girl or something their are things that can take your time up besides video games lol

Thanks Manager! Looks great, loved the demo will be buying it for sure.

Would it be possible to put video up of a late game, with tanks, warships, an atomic bomb. After watch video felt i was watching the demo again :p

I wish I could play that far, but I really have so many games to do right now and so much work on the side. :P
I might pick it up more in a week or three, but I guess it would be kind of late to make a video of it at that time.

I installed CIV IV and couldn't get into it at all, it's just too complicated. This game however, I played the demo and was instantly hooked. Can't wait.

I really like the game (and as a european I've already played it for some weeks :P ), but an issue I have with it is, that (in my opinion) the comp enemies aren't all that challenging, even on "deity" difficulty, had some really good games over online though.

8-10 hours? What was your rush? There's no rule stating that you have to play an entire game in one setting? Strategy gamers like myself will play one game over several days depending on the size of the map and how other civs are in the game.

It's turn based strategy, it's not meant to be rushed through. It's like a classic chess-match with a friend. You play a few moves, you put it away and then you come back to it again another day until it's finished.

On the PC about 2 hours of playing would only provide a modestly revealed map connected with roads (after you've cleared it of barbarians of course), at least 2 luxuries and 2-3 strategic resources (better hope iron and horses are within your radius), contact, trade and/or war with the other civs and hopefully at least 3-4 wonders already built and providing their enhancements.

Usually after a good start I will save and come back to it again another day but the point is 2 hours would only provide a start.

I can only imagine what's been purged from the game to bring us this abbreviated version that allows you to flash through all the ages and tech in just 2 hours. I recommend this for people who haven't played the PC version. At least they won't know what's missing.

Why do you hate America, Manager? ;)

i cant do that when i sit at a game i have to be able to complete my goals or i cant sleep... your looking at a guy that played 18 hours of sins of the solar empire before uninstalling it and crying my self to sleep lol

really i wouldnt mind bigger maps and more depth, its just civ iv is too difficult its too much of a learning curve very ... heavy, in fact thats why i didnt find it fun.. i mean even in sins its deep but fairly simple to get a hold of, civ to me was just too much hands down. civ iv is a great primer to me i might try civ iv after i master civ rev... but i can tel you hands down civ rev has a much wider reach fan avialability than civ 4....

i think it just depends on the kind of player you are... if your someone that likes sitting down and finishing a skirmish in a sitting you'll love CivREV but hate CivIV... if you like the play a little bit and save and come back and come back to the same skirmish then youll be "ok" with civrev but love CivIV

but thats just my take. either way CIVREV and CIVIV are both awesome games in their own merit.
