As promised, here is the second part from the video I've done of [eM] -eNCHANT arM-, this time with my first impressions of the game.
A third video may appear in a few days, if the first boss fight is interesting. Update: Low-res version of the video online.
First of all graphically this is definitely not a killer game. It has some nice textures and effects, but it really looks like it's a quick upgrade of a Xbox game to Xbox 360. Nothing screams next gen so far except the nice 720p resolution with antialiasing. It certainly looks better than any jRPG so far (I'm not commenting on artistical stuff here), but that's it.
Gameplay wise this is very old school. Run around, do you objectives, destroy a few boxes to get some free stuff, and fight. Sometimes the camera is free, sometimes in smaller rooms it's fixed and changes only to help see some stuff.
The battle system is your typical grid based system. Move your character, then choose what to do, be it a support power or kick the enemies ass. Of course each move has a certain distance it can be used at, so you have to be placed accordingly on the grid. Well, you know the drill.
I can't comment on the story since I do not understand japanese, but so far from the tone of the dialogs (most are dubbed, but the less important stuff is only subbed) the scenario is still in the "easygoing" phase.
eM looks like a very typical jRPG, with some good but not incredible production values.
Yea I can see them being more problematic on consoles.. it doesn't require much precision to run someone down with the saber either. (10 minutes ago)
@GriftGFX: Yes, a little bit OP though. If one charges at you with a horse, you're f'ed unless you can pull off a headshot. Especially on consoles they are hard to hit because of the 'controller' (1 Hour ago)
And ya gotta count horses 'cause horsing is one of the best things in the game. (4 Hours ago)
@GriftGFX: yeah I've noticed the extra revive time. You shouldn't compare ww1 vehicles to modern warfare though as it's simply unfair. (4 Hours ago)
I'm sure people miss the progression from more recent games tho.. some people are really into that. It's undeniably barebones by comparison. (5 Hours ago)
Have you noticed that you can still be revived waaaay after the "bleed out" period? Still saves a death too.. hah. (5 Hours ago)
It's not just the lack of unlocks.. lack of stuff in general. Battlefield 2 still had more vehicle and weapon variety than BF1. Way more. (5 Hours ago)
