Xbox 360 PS3

We've just recieved our retail copy of GRAW 2 on 360, and here are our "ten first minutes" of the game. We propose you two videos. The first one showcases the real ten first minutes of the game, showing a tutorial in the desert. The work on the lighting is simply amazing. Then, you'll have a second video showing the ten first minutes of the first mission. I tried my best to use all the features of the game properly and show how useful the cross-com is. Enjoy !

HD versions of these videos will be available tomorrow morning.

I'm still on the fence about this game, I think it's nice and even a bit more than an expansion since they did a lot of optimizing and improvements on the engine but I don't think it exactly warrants a full retail price. I guess a rent will have to do.

By the way, I really appreciate the work you guys do to not only do unique things but to respond and change for your visitors. I mean, no other site offers the first ten minutes of a game, and even if one did they would never often offer a second and sometimes third video continuing the game if you felt more content needs to be shown.

Your efforts are really noticed, I just wish I was French so I'd want to watch your guys' Gamersyde diaries more often (Subtitles turn me off, sadly).

Yeah, I also just want to add in that you guys are the best!

Personally, I don't think I'm ever going to get another Ghost Recon game unless I get some kind of benefit for buying GRAW1. That game's multiplayer never really worked with that "Arbitration problem" and half the game was provided at an additional cost. I got jipped. I think what improvements they've done are good, but they need to do major changes to get me back in to the whole thing.
I don't understand why they can't simply make the single player campaign also be multiplayer with 4 people? It seems like an easy enough thing to do. It doesn't matter if the game becomes too easy or not and it doesn't hurt to have an extra feature.

If I get 12 more Hrs of GRAW single player then what ever they are charging is worth the cost of admission.

GRAW already had incredible graphics that is only second to Gears of War, so really whats the big deal if it feels like an expansion?

I'll paste over what I said on GAF:

The fullscreen cross-com feature that you can use on teams, vehicles and UAV, and allows you to give order without even being there, it really changed it all for me. I tried to show it in the second video (first mission on the game) but I guess it's still nothing compared to what you should be able to do later in the game. It doesn't really change the game itself, but the way you can approach each scene, it gives a better and deeper control on what you're doing and how you're doing it. And when it came to control Graw1 wasn't that much of a reference. So, no, as far as I'm concerned, it's definitely not the same.

And the game is so much more beautiful and smoother, it's not even funny.

Yep, as far as I know. Everytime I saw / played the game, it was a steady 30 fps.

I love how the team stand there to watch the first tank blow up

But yeah they have gone nuts with the light-through-dust effect :P not that I'm complaining.

They have tweaked the visual style and muted the colour pallet quite a bit compared to the original...

That sounds really good to me. Thank you so much for the vids, snoop.
Now let's tackle the tricky AI issue (both team mates and ennemies): after playing the retail version for nearly a week end, would you say it has improved since GRAW 1 ?
Do they take advantage of the environment, launch counter attacks and so on, or do they just stand stupidly, waiting to be shot ?

Well, I think AI is over-rated in this respect... who really gives a crap if the enemy is thinking that advanced? I mean, as long as he moves to cover when he needs to I'm fine...

Yeah, you're so right
But if a game developer were to say the IA can take advantage of the environment, launch counter attacks and so on... then, one could hope it takes cover.
A "locust" AI would do nicely, IMO.

From what I played in the single-player demo of GRAW2 when you shoot at an enemy they generally try and hide or use cover.

The Singleplayerdemo and the Multiplayerdemo have slight screentearing.
Is it still in the retail version? If yes, i am not going to buy it.

i think whoever says AI isn't too important in a tactical shooter just doesn't really understand and/or appreciate what this genre is all about.

however, just compare GRAW with the Ghost Recon (Xbox) and you can clearly see how unchallenging if not non-existing the AI is in places. in the older GR titles you felt threatend and never safe, beacuse enemys would react aggressively. and the more open environments added to this feeling. also you could injure enmies, another aspect that adds to realism and tactic.

I am getting this game in two days and I can ot wait for it. I loved the first one even though I hated the series prior to advanced warfighter... and I never used the cross com in the first one :).

Ps: Are you guys doing a first ten mins of Def Jam Icon? I'd love to see some footage of method man if you do end up doing one. The game is not out in ireland until the 23rd...same with nba street homecourt. Miami heat vs The lakers please! :)

Now enough with my begging

Very true... in the older Ghost Recon games you'd basically be put on a map and there was a ton of separate patrolling bad guys that would actually run to you if you mad noises near them, so it was fun to go around silently and 'hunt' these patrols etc... that was taking out of GR a long time ago and is very missed... but I don't think there is a hope to bring that sort of gaming back.. people want fast paced action and although ghost recon was originally built ontop of a slower tactical concept it has grown into being very similar to rainbow six only outdoors... that's just the way that it's happened. GRAW1 and 2 are about half as tactical as the originals were.

Also, most newer games are just easier in general anyways, cause no one really like getting killed all the time, for instance play any Hitman game and you will instantly know if you like getting killed 40 times before you actually get the mission right or if you hate it and just like having a 'challenge' but never dieing and stopping your fun.
