Trailer PS3

The recently revealed character Tess is pictured today with three images and a cinematic process video that shows the perfomance capture of Annie Wersching. The Last of Us is set to release on May 7th 2013.

Tess bio:

A hardened survivor living in one of the last remaining quarantine zones, Tess operates in the black market of a city under martial law. Partners with Joel, they have become known within the criminal underworld for their ruthlessness. Street smart and confident, Tess is a savvy strategist and negotiator. Her ability to generate intelligent plans to secure the contraband for their trade is second to none.

Tess and Joel subscribe to the same dog-eat-dog philosophy. They survive by being willing to do what others can’t or won’t. Her trust in and loyalty towards Joel runs deep. However, secretly, she questions whether Joel shares the same emotions that she feels for him.

They really are in a league of their own with this stuff. Why can't all games put this much care and quality into their characters, animation and voice acting? I was hoping we'd leave resi 1 style dialogue behind in the PSone era...at least some devs actually care about this stuff.

ME1 too. Valve are typically very good at it too. Alex vance, glados, weatley etc etc. R* games too (although they've faultered with story and likable characters the past 2 games imo, they still know how to write and cast good actors/voice work) i mean, they're out there, i just wish it wasn't a "count on one hand" situation.

Your right, it makes it immersive, it makes you care about the characters you play as or play with, it makes the story more interesting and the world more believable. The fact you like Bayonetta makes it clear you don't like story, style or characters. But i do and if a game has cutscenes or a story or characters, i want them to be as polished, interesting and well rounded and believable as they can possibly be. I don't want a guy flapping his jaw spouting crap dialogue in a crap story.

It's a case of if you can't do it well, don't bother. I wish vanquish had done that. The game was OK. But those LONG cutscenes where pointless. They need not have bothered. If you can't do this sort of stuff well, just make your game like the old games. Like contra or R-type. No story, no attempted character development, no dialogue...just start the level, kill some dudes, and move onto the next. Roll credits...done.

Again, a good one. Not so much consistent tho since the body mo-cap felt jarringly separate to the face (because it was) but the faces where great. Not much to admire skill wise, but impressive as hell non the less.

Well is because I care for whats important on a videgame, I mean I buy them to play, I buy what offers the most fun gameplay available to me, I do care for immersion, for a more believable world, for all those things you mention only not on a VIDEOGAME.

But we have been through this countless times before that is just us repeating ourselves here.

Well thats fine, but think of it like a genre thats probably not for you. I mean The Walking Dead isnt a great "game" but its one hell of an experience, same with this. In a gameplay aspect it may not be appealing to most, but you have to give props where they are due.

Meh, not that impressive. Yes, it does look good. The fact that she's based on a real actress makes it 10 times less impressive.

Wat? Heaven forbid a dev gets some immersion and story in mah vidya game!

I get that these things don't matter to you, but how can you be so narrow minded as not to acknowledge that this stuff IS important to a LOT of people? Furthermore, why would you ever not want your videogames to have good story and dialogue and voice acting? It's not like putting these in means the gameplay has to suffer. It makes no sense.

I don't get these "I only care about gameplay" people but rarely play games that actually have caverns and caverns of gameplay depth.

How so? ND don't capture the performers face in anyway outside of the reference footage you just saw. It isn't like say, ninja theory or quantic dream who put dots on their actors faces and mo-cap the entire thing. And it isn't like LA noire which basically was just a 3D recording of a face. ND animate the faces by hand, pixar style. It's the diference between a motion tween in flash, and someone animating frame by frame...on paper. What ND do is impressive as hell since its a labour of love. Motion capture is great (in the rare instances its worked well), but ultimately devoid of charm.

I don't know who those people are nor I care for that matter, they are the reason we are getting this "cinematic, immersive" experiences in the first place and they are the reason we are losing more and more the games that gets thought and effort in gameplay and in the fun part of it.

Narrow minded for care about what's important on a videogame? well now I have read everything, shake my head seriously, we are in this forum and other videogames forums suposed to be hardcore gamers, the people that care about this stuff, I didn't thought we are full of casual people that likes or care this shit honestly, you "immersive/story/dialog/" and the CoD crowd are ruining videogames.

Thank you.

Wow the ignorance is rampant in these posts, hey man if you want to go on a hate train about games other people like then that makes no sense. Just avoid these games, there not aimed towards you, period. Play something you love, that what its about.

Also the complaint about these are fake cut scene, yeah duh who told you they werent? Besides, so what? Capturing an actors performance is more important then trying to run everything in engine, this isnt crysis nor is it trying to be. Anyone who plays games know that smart developers develop around limitations.

Haters guna hate I suppose.

I think it's different for each game, each company, each budget, each style, each approach, each dream for a game ... but you see the list can go on for a bit right? Okay good ...

so yes, not every company can put games into that "Care Bear" type of bracket. The thing that bothers me though, and I think Korn is subconsciously trying to say is that - "Why don't companies put this care into games" - when they have the ability to do so and nothing holding them back from doing so?

Still - I love games like Fez and that has no bloody mo-cap - lol (made by one guy) but games from ND - I do have "higher" than reasonable expectations for my $60.00 - not to say that if two guys from ND made a game under their banner with limited resources and it turned out good that it would not get my love and money.

Totally agree with you, Gameplay for me is paramount if i wanted a proper story i'd read a book or watch a blu ray. Games are lost these days they try to be movies and end up with some half assed story that 95% of the time is shit and the gameplay also suffers.

Fortunately ND manage to pull off the gameplay also so this game should make everyone happy.
