Trailer PC PS4 Xbox One

After two episodes that always failed to convince us, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has just simply swept us off our feet just as if its Aardcore magic had put a spell on us. Visually and musically superb in every possible way, Geralt of Rivia's last adventure is also beautifully written. As it is, this third installment in the franchise is the best answer to all the hopes and dreams laid down by this current generation of machines. We now leave you with the beauty of the game's incredibly poetic landscapes, all in their 1080p/60fps glory. That should be enough to shut up all those who have been bitching about the game's technical downgrade for weeks.

People are already throwing the downgrade flag around this game?? CD Project doing a game for all major consoles and PC was a pretty tough thing to do for such an independent developer, now add in open world and its clear the amount of effort that went into this with some people mentioning that some side quests that can run upwards of 15 hours, that's insane!

What is there to complain about? People need to just enjoy their games sometimes.

Nobody ever said the game looked bad.
But it doesn't look the way it was presented @ first and the CD Project straight up lied to us. The said the game was not going to be downgraded and would even look better then the first shown footage.
But the worst part is that after the game has been sold they admit that there where downgrades but the rather call them "optimization".

This message is in "Boulet Time" (TM), If you still *really* want to see it, click here
it has nothing to do with what the game looks like as their saying.

You lie about not downgrading. You show visuals that are gameplay and then change it RIGHT before release to make the game look the same on consoles as on PC.

They even said "PC GAMERS are just not understood" - then you make a move like this. THAT is what deserves this company the EA stamp of approval.

Hope this company burns

Drift: it was justified pointing out the downgrades AND the lies they kept telling until short after release, where they admitted that they downgraded the visuals.
If you call that bitching, that's your opinion. I call it 'telling it like it is'.
Nobody said the game looks bad.
Nope it was plain stupid, but that's how most people on the Internet are so what can you do... I can understand that newbies got fooled by the first videos but anyone with a bit of experience knows that showing a game's engine at an early stage means you have fewer constraints - in this case, no open world and AI to deal with.

CD Projekt thought they could reach that quality and they were wrong, for different reasons I guess, among which the two consoles I suppose. It was awkward at best but it was not a lie, especially considering that what we're mostly missing are washed-out colors (which people find so realistic), smoother animations maybe and some particle/smoke effects. When you look at the rest, it's much closer than what people would accept to acknowledge.

I think gamers are too spoiled, they should not be shown anything anymore if it were up to me. I mean, when they're shown a game in its true state and it has jaggies or bugs because it's still in development, people say it looks like shit. When they are shown a target render and then realize that, however beautiful when released, they say it's a scandal. The worst part is that, had they released the exact same game as in the first trailer, people would bitch because it wouldn't run at 60 fps on PC and they'd say it's because it's poorly optimized. What a horrible, horrible, horrible industry to work for really.

The amount of work CD projekt has achieved is incredible, and I don't simply mean technically. The game has more content than any other game of the genre, it has solid writing, which most highly-praised open world games don't even have, and people are still on that downgrade thing. And I am saying all this after finding The Witcher 2 so boring and over-rated.

And by the way, everything we write is is just our opinion, we've never claimed to preach the universal truth. I hope you're not going to take my reply the wrong way then. ;p

Well, no it wasn't actually as the scene shown didn't not belong to an open world game at the time and all the AI was scripted. It was clearly more considered as a lie because at the time we had no idea what the new consoles would be capable of. I'm guessing Ubi didn't either. By the way, why didn't people talk about downgrade back when Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter was first shown? If you don't know what a lie is, then you should take a closer look at the cake. :p

Yea, but you "can't downgrade a game that doesn't exist," right? It's sorta the same thing.

Devs need better PR.

The game looks fantastic but I'm sorry, they lied, maybe it wasn't their intention and I really don't care because it still looks fantastic but that's the fact. What's worst is that up until a few weeks before release they kept showing images taken from the first footage shown which they obviously already knew wouldn't be what we would be getting. I don't like being lied to, that's all. And I repeat the game is and looks great, but that's another story.

I have not been on the website for so long. So I am signing in just to back Driftwood up. I think most people do not understand that when a game is first shown, it doesn't mean that will be the final game. In fact far from it.

I think you guys need to think of the final game as fine tuned game rather than a down grade. Much like concept cars, when the production model hit the production line there are changes that need to be made for feasibility over the original concept. This is why most of those early game play mostly set the tone of the game and mostly considered proof of concept.

I guess the best was for developers to keep everyone happy is to not show the game too early.

I'm playing it with the Fantasy SweetFX injector and I can say that it's one of the best looking games ever. Yes, is not perfect, but overall the game looks amazing. Here are some screenshots I took last night (I finally beaten the griffin on Death March difficulty!).

I really don't understand how some people didn't buy the game because of the graphics.

I think that, most of the people that feels CD Projekt hasn't been honest, haven't really been following the witcher's developement.

Since 2014, it was completely OBVIOUS that there had already been a downgrade back then. Maybe that was caused by the increasing complexity of the game or by the release of the consoles specs...

The sad part of this, is that those comments are actually restraining a lot of people to buy the BEST GAME of this generation so far. (in my opinion)

Fuck sake, dry your eyes. The early footage they showed off was more or less what they believed they could achieve or at least meet whenever the game went into it's crunch for optimisation. It couldn't. That's not the devs fault, that's time constraint and weaker hardware, namely the consoles. In order for them to match that early footage on PC, they'd most likely had to have to delay the PC release, which would mean the console version would be a timed exclusive to an extent. That would be an even bigger issue as far as I'm concerned, rather than cutting a few polys here, and a few post effects there. The game essentially looks almost exactly like the reveal trailers apart from those effects like the smoke. It's called optimisation, not a downgrade. I'll take a game that runs well over something that looks moderately better but performs like shit any day.

Watch Dogs. Now that game was certainly downgraded. Each time we seen it, it looked worse, and it was a persistent thing over a period of months, if not years, that this happened. Aliens CM is another example of a downgraded game.

Lol. Driftwood, that last sentence cracked me up. But it's true though most people complaining about need to get a grip and smell the coffee. Some people even on the Witcher forums refused to get the game until they released the enhanced edition -_-. They game has been working flawlessly without any crashes so I'm happy.

Bitching about downgrade is legit. I bought the collector's edition in June 2014. What I received in May 2015 is simply not the same product I had bought at the time. Nobody ever talked about a downgrade at the time, and if you go back and watch the 'old trailers', the difference in graphics is just said. Plus, it runs very heavily for the visuals it offers. That has nothing to do with the design or how the game is but it is pure technical optimization.

I very much agree with you...The game is just something else...The scope, the visuals, the writing, the soundtrack...Sure it doesn't look quite as detailed or vibrant as the initial footage, but what we got is above any other game this gen in scope and ambition. Also, I do think it is different from Watch Dogs...That game over promised in every aspect.

You're a big guy, why didn't you cancel your preorder when you saw all the 2015 footage? It's not like the Polish mob pulled a gun at you to force you to buy it.

This is what we were shown in 2014:

http://www.gamersyde.com/news_35_minutes_of_the_wi...

Framerate was horrible back then, and game looks pretty much the same as it is now on PC. Blaming optimization today is pure nonsense considering what you get on the screen. To expect to play yhe game fully maxed out on something else than a high end rig is just naive.

I think we all get that people aren't happy that the first trailers looked better, but it's more than time to move on. Or maybe you guys should just stop video games and find another hobby since you're bound to be even more deceived in the future.
