Here is the first gameplay footage of Dead Island: Riptide. This 9-minutes walkthrough shows boats, zombie onslaught, and defending hub areas. Deep Silver will release the game on April 23rd in North America, three days later in Europe.

Anyone else excited for this? I didn't mind the first one mainly cuz of the multiplayer experience...
Not in a million years. Terrible engine, horrible animations and so glitchy even in this video. The biggest controversy of this game is the sales it will still get after the abysmal reviews again.
Edit: and my eyes are bleeding from the screen tear.
I think the engines pretty decent. I'm playing through the first on the ps3 and it runs fine most of the time and looks really nice. Better, the network codes been pretty flawless lag wise...which is rare for a ps3 game. Does tend to crash in co-op abit though so i hope thats improved upon...regardless, having alot of fun with Dead island when i get to play it

best fps open zone zombie game, cannot wait get this, first game was great along with all the mods
Completely agree on Dead Island. I loved the open world areas, the variety of zombies, the physics, the weapons, the customization, almost everything. The story was a little disappointing, but overall it was very entertaining.
That being said, for some reason I have almost no desire to play this. I think I played far too much of the original, and this just doesn't seem to bring enough new to the table. Same assets, mostly same characters, almost the same setting, very little looks improved or changed at all. It just looks like a quick cash in, which is too bad because a sequel to launch on next gen systems at the end of the year would have been amazing!

Bullshit.
Gameplay aside, this game looked and ran incredibly well. And that is an understatement.
I wouldn't say 'incredible', but considering they were optimising for console with 4 player coop, they did a fantastic job with the end result. But I feel many of the mistakes were due to the low budget nature of the game.

totally agree with you also, hopefully they have done more that we have not seen, would love good survivor mode were you and other co-op friends build bases and defend them from zombie assaults
It's just too janky. The idea of the franchise is awesome, and the early bits were kinda enjoyable, but piss poor level design, some kind of crummy design choices, and general awful jank meant for kind of a crummy over all experience. It was super frustrating feeling like the zombies had as much reach as you when you were swinging a fuckin' bat at them, or being in cramped, annoying spaces, dealing with constant enemies rushing you.
This isn't a sequel, it's an expansion, and that means I won't be picking it up.
This game is crap... yall are buying it because of its CGi trailer and the zombie fantasy franchise, just admit it... there are better games out there with zombies

Care to name them? I won't be picking up Riptide, as it looks too similar to DI, but DI was the best zombie game I have played since the original Resident Evils. It had the best open world setting, best variety of weapons and customization, best physics and damage modeling, variety of enemies, etc. The only negatives I would include would be the stereotypical characters and the less than serious storyline (they should've stuck with the theme from the CGI trailer).
