And this is coming from someone who's most likely a much bigger Tolkien fan than you.

I have seen plenty of this game, since I have been keeping an eye on it since it was announced. This game has nothing to do with what Tolkien envisioned. It may be a fun hack'n'slash game - maybe even better than the LOTR games for the old Xbox, and hopefully way better than Conquest. That doesn't mean Tolkien would approve it.
I hope I will be proven wrong, and that this game actually can incorporate a true Middleearth vibe, but I seriously doubt it...
