Hope Hangs by a Thread and Fades with the Light as Survivors Scavenge the Remains of Humanity

Coming to Next-Gen and Current-Gen Consoles, PC in 2014

LONDON, UK – 23rd May, 2013 – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announces Dying Light, a first-person, action survival horror video game with a portentous day-night cycle set in a vast open world. Currently under development by Techland, the game will be available in 2014 for Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®4, plus Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system, and PC.

During the day, players will traverse an expansive urban environment overrun by a vicious outbreak, scavenging the world for supplies and crafting weapons to defend against the growing infected population. At night, the hunter becomes the hunted, as the infected become aggressive and more dangerous. Most frightening are the predators which only appear after sundown. Players must use everything in their power to survive until the morning’s first light.

“We are excited to partner with Techland on Dying Light, which is an original gaming experience for next-generation consoles,” said Kevin Kebodeaux, Senior Vice President, Sales and Operations, Americas, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “The partnership with Techland allows us to combine their successful development capabilities with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s one-of-a-kind publishing expertise to deliver on this title.”

“The next-gen technology allows us to create a truly dynamic open world that features a game-changing day-night cycle,” said Pawe? Marchewka, CEO of Techland. “Inventive free running mechanics also allow for nearly unrestricted exploration and weapon-crafting to further enhance the action survival experience."

so basically a next gen dead island then? looks really nice.. with a hint of mirrors edge style platforming about it going by that one screen - hope so

“The next-gen technology allows us to create a truly dynamic open world that features a game-changing day-night cycle,” ...so what does that mean for the 360/ps3 version?

hopefully a bit more polished then their previous efforts.

Just call it Dead Island 1.3 and be done with it. You'll probably sell few more copies that way.

Probably pretty-much the same game, but won't look as good, play as smoothly, load as fast, etc... etc... Kind of like the differences between a current-gen console game and a high-end PC game. I suspect the first wave of next-gen games will be like that, if they're on multiple platforms.

Just guessing...

Awesome graphics and character detail.
I would love to see next gen consoles, atleast PS4 (since thats what i plan on getting) pull off 1080p like these images, looks great.

Is this on the Chrome 5 engine or a good engine?

Interesting premise and it looks good from those screens.

a "game changing" day-night cycle. wow. didn't notice they said that. that's almost as bad as activisions "next gen" fish that move out of the way.

Err I think you're reading that wrong, surely they're talking about how the day/night cycle changes the game itself? They're not talking about it as if it's ground breaking or something (my take on it), we all know Flashpoint in 2001 invented the day/night cycle ;)

even in that context it isn't exactly something you need next gen hardware for. i'd love for a developer to say it like it is. "more of the same but looks a shit load better"

Clearly there is nothing new if they brag about day-night cycle.
It's a ''stealth'' way to bring Dead Island to next consoles with new publisher (Deep Silver owns DI rights).

I wonder if it will be more free-roaming than the Dead Island games. I am almost getting a Far Cry 3 vibe when I am looking at these images.

The usage of chromatic aberration makes me want to do bad things with theses devs. MY EYES ARE NOT CAMERA LENSES DAMNIT!

Looks good and I'm always in for a I Am Legend kind of game. Loved the movie.

Hopefully they keep it survival horror, rather than survival Rambo where you can obtain military grade weapons with laser sights and acog scopes and a billion rounds of ammo.

Looks exactly like dead island 3. This is what Riptide should've been, but they went for the quick cash in in the mean time. Even looks like they are using a lot of the same assets. Look at those shanties!

hahahahahaha, yeah, that's a good question. I hope it's decent tech this time. God it's been bad in their other games, hasn't it?

Ugh.. yet another drop in the ocean of zombie games. its almost as bad as all the modern warfare crap. i'm sooooo excited...

  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX It's a meaty campaign too. And you'll probably like the MP anyway. It's a fun throw-away experience. (11 minutes ago)
  • Megido
Megido @Tinks: The single player campaign is the best raw action FPS gameplay since Painkiller though, it's totally worth it. (27 minutes ago)
  • Tinks
Tinks if the MP ain't good I ain't buyin it (48 minutes ago)
  • Melmoth
Melmoth @KORNdog: the headset itself is selling for almost $600. It's unusually expensive considering there's proper distribution of sony products here in retail. (4 Hours ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog @Melmoth: it seems cheaper to break things down and buy older stick. Like the sqare design camera can be had for less than the new one. And old move controllers less than the ore packaged VR ones. (5 Hours ago)
  • Melmoth
Melmoth lol, PSVR (with camera) will sell for $650 here in Norway. talk about overpricing stuff. the console itself isn't expensive ($350) (5 Hours ago)
  • crookedmind
crookedmind ... in Doom 3 I was begging for the game to end after 300 something levels, Doom kept me interested the entire time. They tried to keep to their simple FPS gameplay, and they succeeded. (6 Hours ago)
