GSY Review PC PS4 Xbox One

The Devil May Cry series has not always been at its best over the years, with the disappointing DMC2 for example, but Devil May Cry 5 is decided to continue Capcom's successful streak of excellent releases after RE VII, Monster Hunter World and the recent RE2 remake. Is this new episode any good? Well, we hate to spoil our verdict so soon, but the quick answer is, hell yeah!

Verdict

Let's not beat about the bush, if you like the genre, or better yet, the series itself, there is no way you can miss Devil May cry 5. The game looks good, it's very smooth and its content has everything you could wish for: varied gameplay mechanics with 3 distinct styles (Dante being the icing on the cake), a plot full of twists and revelations which allow the saga to move forward, colorful characters (oh Nico) and an excellent replay value with many difficulty modes to unlock. Sure, there are still a few minor flaws in the package, like the impossibility to switch between Nero's Devil Breakers, but you'd have to be particularly blasé to be finicky here. Better than all the previous titles in the series, DMC5 is one of the best beat'em ups out there, a true prince worthy of kings and queens like Ninja Gaiden Black and Bayonetta. Hats off Capcom!
  • On the plus side
  • Pretty and smooth, the RE Engine shines
  • Orgasmic and deep gameplay for Dante
  • 3 heroes and 3 radically different styles
  • Expect some numerous twists in the plot
  • Some cutscenes are just amazing
  • Nico and her Southern accent in English
  • Many bosses, some of which are dantesque
  • Solid level design overall
  • On the downside
  • Loading times are too frequent
  • Not being able to switch manually between Nero's Devil Breakers
  • Having to wait until the middle of the adventure to play Dante
  • The hellish noise of the PS4 Pro
  • It's a nitpick but photo mode is pretty basic

after the amazing display that was RE2, and now with DMC V, RE is now my favourite engine.
one question though, are all the cut-scenes rendered in real-time?

thank you for the in-depth reviews and your ever so great coverage of the games we love, Gsyde.

Well i thought they were, but some of them might be actually pre-calculated. On my second playthrough, i realize that in one cinematic Nero wasn't wearing the Devil Breaker i was using. Not sure tho.

"+ Orgasmic and deep gameplay for Dante"

That's all I needed to hear. Devil May Cry 5, the game that gives the players orgasms. (Disclaimer: Only when playing as Dante!)

In all seriouness though, thanks a lot for the review, videos and images! It's really great to see someone who gets the game and genre review it, while it's nice to see a review of a first timer to the series, nothing beats the review of someone experienced with it.

It's really great to see DMC5 getting great reviews all around. MetaCritic scores: 91 (PC), 88 (XB1), 86 (PS4). Capcom's return to form is amazing, hopefully they use this new found juice of greatness on a new Onimusha, Dino Crisis, Dragon's Dogma 2, and pipe dream, Final Fight. A new Final Fight on the style of Devil May Cry, but focused on martial arts, wrestling and other fighting styles would be awesome if done properly.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is probably in the works since Capcom gave Hideaki Itsuno the choice to make either DMC5 or DD2, grateful he did DMC5, but now that he's free and DMC5's reviews are great, I'm sure Capcom trusts him enough to do a DD2 asap. I can't even imagine the crazy stuff he would implement on the gameplay of a new Dragon's Dogma, specially since it would come out for the PS5 and XB2/4. It just needs to allow both single player and up to 4 online co-op, a feature sorely missed from DD1.

I'm a huge fan of all the possibilities that Dante delivers, but Nero and V have pretty decent gameplays too. Just a question of taste. ;)

Of course. I meant as a joke. Like Dante gives "orgasms".

apparently, if your PC is too old and you don't have enough vram your game is gonna go dark and I mean DAAAARK. the engine tries to keep the fps above 30 even if it means you won't be able to see anything

xbox one x is much better with the noise control.

I think the 7200 PS4 Pro can also reduce the noise to certain level.

My 1070 laptop can't handle this, it's like playing with a jet engine
