We reviewed Freedom Cry

We reviewed Freedom Cry

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is getting its first single player DLC this week and we had a chance to play three different versions of it (Xbox One, PS4 and X360). Freedom Cry is pretty ambitious in terms of topic, as it focuses on the conditions of slaves in the 18th century. You play as Adéwalé, Kenway's Quartermaster, as he discovers the shores of the French colonies of the Caribbeans. In terms of gameplay however, nothing new as this new content mainly features what AC4 already proposed, a few things having being adapted to the new context with the obligation to free the slaves who are imprisoned or ill-treated by their master. That being said, we enjoyed the new locations and the music by Olivier Derivière (who even went as far as to use real slave chants sung by a choir of Haitians). Other than that, it has the same flaws and strengths as the main game, which will either please or disappoint depending. Choose your side!

I'd say 4 to 5 hours but I didn't review it, I'm still playing.

For those who are interested, the review of the original soundtrack:

About the game

What's up?

Tiz @GriftGFX: I think MS were in full on panic mode because they wanted to add value to their box, so they showed everything. (23 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX Yeah they just need to actually implement some of that stuff. They're charting an interesting path. I feel like they showed this game off before they knew what it was. (24 minutes ago)
  • Tiz
Tiz For instance, in Destiny, the whole point of getting loot is to get better equipped to do raids for better equipment to do raids for better equipment and sometimes Iron Banner. (25 minutes ago)
  • Tiz
Tiz @GriftGFX: It really depends how they approach it. If you can upgrade your ship, crew etc to navigate more dangerous parts of the sea then it will be a dangling carrot scenario. (26 minutes ago)
  • Tiz
Tiz Also, like the Division you have to cash in the loot before people steal it for themselves. The Division ran into the problem of just allowing anyone in the instances. (28 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX And like.. what's the purpose of the loot itself. (28 minutes ago)
  • Tiz
Tiz @GriftGFX: I feel like what the loot is will determine the way people play. Will there be the standard common to Legendary loot? Will some loot be harder to navigate to, if so, will it be worth it? (29 minutes ago)
