What we think of Yonder

What we think of Yonder

Our early coverage of Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles did not seem to get much of your attention, but it's true this game is deprived of zombies or perfectly modelled cars. We actually have one more video to share with you now that the game is available on PC and PS4. Technically, we even have two, but the commented gameplay footage we have prepared is in French only. We've added our classic +/- section inside though, so you can get a summary of our impressions.

On the plus side

+ An enchanting world to discover
+ Excellent lighting effects
+ Rain conveys a great atmosphere
+ Day/night cycle and seasons
+ The OST and sound design in general
+ Very cute wildlife
+ Soothing
+ Pleasant and easy to play
+ Exploring and discovering the world
+ Many things to collect if you're into such things
+ 60 FPS, on PC and PS4

On the downside

- Character models stand out
- The main quest is short and not really exciting
- The day/night cycle is too fast
- FedEx: The Game
- The crafting and farming aspects are too limited
- Without combat, some will get bored sooner than later
- After 4 to 5 hours, you've pretty much seen everything
- Collectibles artificially add to the game's longevity

I found the visuals nice, but the gameplay looked dull imho. It might be a very good game for a younger audience, which is probably the target audience. Or as an introduction to the genre. But for more hardcore gamers, Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley are much better games.

it looks super lovely. but i feel like it kinda needs a "don't starve" gameplay loop and level of depth to keep you coming back.

nostradamus @Seth: that seems... tame? (9 Hours ago)
  • Seth
Seth Personally i'll recommend Dead Cells or Enter the Gungeon over a bottom tier rogielike with survival elements. (20 Hours ago)
  • Seth
Seth Below is really hardcore game. It makes you looking in the dark for your lantern each time you die by a trap that is impossible to see. Sometimes you lose like 20 mins until you find it. (20 Hours ago)
  • MikeManiac61
MikeManiac61 @b0vril: As much as i like Red Dead, R* made the pacing for this one too slow. Half the time it felt like i was playing a cinematic. Most side missions felt more interesting than the story. (23 Hours ago)
  • b0vril
b0vril @toelessfoot: that's probably the best way to go. I didn't find the story or it's missions all that great. (1 Day ago)
