Wii Fit videos

Our friend DjMizuhara bought Wii Fit today, and already sent us 3 videos. It looks much more fun than I thought!
Update: DjMizuhara is really spoiling us with his videos since this time we get a video with picture in picture of him on the board so we can see how the game works. I hope the next one will be with the push-ups mode!
Update: One more, with this time the Ski Jump event.

This is not a game, it's an exercise programme.
Nintendo taking the whole casual thing a bit too far I think.

And please change the thumbnail on the main page linking to this vid, that girl looks horribly scary.

I've said it before and now i'm going to say it again: you don't need another game to get in shape, you just have to f***ing exercise. If you don't have the motivation to get in shape without nintendo you sure as hell won't have it with nintendo either.

Unless this "game" helps you count calories and teaches you how to exercise properly then i think it's a big load of bollox.

I sometimes think that people really don't realize that it took a very very long time for the game industry to take itself seriously and to be taken seriously.

I knew this was coming, I have actually prepared for it. But I still cringe at the sight and sound of it.

I don't think that Nintendo desires to, or is ever going to reconnect with core gamers ever again.

This actually looks really fun.
I'm getting this for sure :p

Yup this is definitely going to be a big hit !!

Well done Nintendo for offering such fun alternatives this generation

I like the BMI part of the first video. It could be a nice addition to a healthy diet and regular (real) exercise, just to see how your body developed over time and to see some results.

That said, I like the Nike/iPod approach for jogging better, with uploadable status etc. Expensive, though.

BMI is a very flawed way of measuring though. A real measuring tool, like a skin fold caliper, costs like 25 bucks and does the job of measuring your body way better than this "game" will ever do. I mean...who cares about BVMI? What's interesting is body fat percentage.

I disagree. In my case, it's impossible for me to commit to an exercise program because I'm too lazy to go out to a gym every day and home options are boring. Admittedly, obviously, my motivation is low. But if this Wii Fit is actually quite fun, then a game could be enough to get me off my ass.

Either way, I think it amusing that they can manage wide screen for THIS of all games and people still seem to have trouble implementing it for other games.

I didn't say the BMI is the ultimate answer to all questions about body health. But I like the documentation of progress (weight, bmi, ability to balance some balls on a course), combined with a real training program. And if Wii Fit does that, great.

There's obviously a market for it, so let them.. And it's good for public health aswell I guess..

Even if the wii fit IS fun it wont be so fun as to get you through your bare minimum of 30 minutes of cardio-exercise a day. I thought the same thing with Dance Dance Revolution. I was all like "wow, this must be an awesome way to get exercise and have fun at the same time!" and sure it was...for the first 3 days, then i just wanted to barf all over my PS2 because it was so repetitive and BORING to stomp around there for 40 minutes straight 5 times a week. The best way to get shit done is to get a buddy and just go to the gym regularly or if you cant do that, get a stationary bike or a crosstrainer and place it in front of your tv and watch something while you exercise, that way you can always watch something and those painfully boring 40 minutes will slip by much more easily.

So, so lame.

The BMI info in the game IS going to be REALLY far off. Those skin fold tools aren't even as accurate as the water tank tests, so this game is basically going to say very muscular people are fat.

Finally, I've heard there's a weight limit for the device around 250 pounds. That's going to cause a lot of problems in America (for the people who would buy the game).
Commented on 2007-12-02 22:09:54
I don't understand how this game will make you "fit"... perhaps improve your balance, but overall fitness?!

And exercise is only half the equation... as the saying goes, "abs are made in the kitchen."

Hahahah!
Kinda defeats the purpose, no?

"ERROR! YOU ARE TOO FAT TO EXERCISE!"
Haha!

  • digi_matrix
digi_matrix Paranormal Activity was insane, totally deserves being the most profiting indie film ever made. I saw the original version, not the theatrical one. WAY BETTER! (4 Hours ago)
  • SimonM7
SimonM7 Nope, no such prestige I'm afraid. Just 1½ year of comic making and ICQ channel community on quakenet of all places. :) 2002 doesn't sound far back but it's soon 8 years ago. Time sure does roar past. (10 Hours ago)

Megido Did you make comics and stuff for kong back in the day? The art looks similar :) (11 Hours ago)

SimonM7 Thanks :D and yeah I do. M7 was originally a webcomic, and the idea now is to make it a bit of an entertainment blog in general and a webcomic. Only done two strips so far since I rebooted it in may. (12 Hours ago)
