Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap goes retro

LizardCube has revealed a retro feature for Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap. With just a simple push on a button, anytime, anywhere in-game, you can switch from HD to 8-bit graphics. Moreover, if you happen to still have your Sega passcode from 1989, you will be able to load that last save. The game launches this Spring on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.

I'll take one serving of HD graphics and some 8-bit sound to go with that please :)

The more I see and learn of this game, the more amazing it seems. Definitely a game to look forward to. And those 8 bit graphics made me remind of Sega Master System's Alex Kidd, which is never a bad thing - loved those games.

Well, it is a Master System game to begin with, so no surprise there :P

About the game

What's up?

MrWhite Not sure if they've improved much these days. (42 minutes ago)

MrWhite A lot of Japanese made games were guilty of that whenever voice acting become possible. I mean, aye, it was always cheese, but you tolerated it more back then (42 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX The voice acting was always regarded as pure cheese. (44 minutes ago)
  • MrWhite
MrWhite Yeah, and the voice acting, something which back then, was great. Today it's just pure cheese. Sound design is often neglected to be mentioned over visuals when talking about progress in games. (45 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX This is what Shenmue combat looks like. It's not heavily based on QTE despite the game making QTE a buzzword: [url] (45 minutes ago)
  • MrWhite
MrWhite Yeah a lot of it was very clunky. It did often boil down to QTE's to resolve "disputes" and chases, if I recall correctly. Mad how a lot of games to this day still do that. (46 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX Still one of the better parts of the game. And it's not a bad game, but it's definitely a "good for its time" game.. which means.. maybe not actually good :D (47 minutes ago)
