Well, looks like the X05 video show will soon be over. For tonight I'll let you watch this not-so-interesting gameplay of Chrome Hounds, at least it shows a bit more how great game this game look in HD resolution :D
I must admit, this is actually a genre I never understood. Ever. I played Mechwarrior 2 on the PC ages ago and that was cool because you had this cockpit view and you could push a bunch of buttons and it was tactical and it felt really huge and stuff. Mechassault had some incredibly basic arcade mechanics that worked okay in multiplayer, but the single player game was astonishingly shallow.
What is the appeal? I honestly want to know. Any fans of Armored Core and stuff like that on this forum? I'd really love a quick description.
I never got into Mech games much either, but this one has a strange attraction that I can't put into words right now.
It's wierd, cause I'm so used to playing fast paced Deathmatch in games like UT2004, yet this is very slow, but I want to play it.

Actually, I did get into VirtualOn! and VirtualOn! 2 a lot.
It was a lot faster paced than this though, and the strategy and tactics involved were incredible. Those were some deep games.
Mechassault was a joke...a mediocre game that was fun for about 2 seconds. Hence why the sequel was crap..well, its because the original was crap.
But as far as this game goes, this blows all the mech games outta the water for me, I mean its just awesome...great visuals and gameplay...what more could you ask for out of a mech game? or any game for that matter...
mech games really anoy me. whoever was playing the game there, was that fun? it looked really annoying to just go in cirlces shooting each other with nothing happening.

Basically. Mech Assault was cool for a few minutes because it was cool to play online with other people on my Xbox, but once I got past that I realised how shitty the game actually was. This on the other hand looks fun.

I have been a fan of quality Mech games for a long time, however there has been a serious lack of fun ones for a long time. Mechwarrior 2 and Mercinaries were two of the best. The cockpit view the "simulation" feel and the controling of something larger than your self that you could build per your own needs was the draw. I never had the money for Steel Batallion and that looked like the one to have with the 40 button controller and all.
I was hoping for something a little more simulation like, but I will keep this in mind.
I enjoyed the original Mechwarrior games much more than Mechassault. Mechassault was to dumbed down compared to the PC ones. I wish theyd make another game for the PC. 4 and Mercenaries were fun.
i don't understand how mech games are cool either. Its really just circle straifing and firing until someone dies. not alot of skill involved. I wait for the day when one does require skill.
what are you on? those games do require skill! i'm not a fan of armored core or mech assault series myself(they're shit), but i do love mech games! this one doesn't look that bad, and should provide different style of gameplay. does remind me of armored core, though..also made by the same developers..*sigh*
still looking forward to this since i'm such a mech head..i even play the front mission games :D

I hope the organic environments get a boost though (the mountains and such); they looked pretty drab in most videos I've seen.
the water looked good though

Indeed, those were awesome. But like you said, those were fast and arcadey and balanced and skill-based.
Here you just seem to take turns shooting eachother in the face, and you're way too slow to evade anything.
