Unfortunatelly 70% of console gamers dont even know original game, most of them were sperm in theirs papas balls. Personally this is one of my most favorite games ever but somehow design on those screens sucks ass, why they even bothered to give us tpp view ? To satisfy oldskool gamers or 15yrs old GoW killaz ? Answer is more then obvious. Lab screen is cool tho but where the hell is earth view screen ?
I firmly believe that the reason they're making this game is to introduce those 70% of gamers to the brilliance of X-Com. But as it was also released on PS1- there's an easy assumption that they're pushing this on as a nod to those of us still capable of remembering the original in it's PC/PS1 debut, and thanking us for playing.
As for the over the shoulder view- I'm fine with that, it's not a big deal and certainly not worth getting sour over. If they could have done it back then, I'm sure they would have. But as it looks like he's at a gas station, that view may be what's needed to show what's going on (vs. our old "just pull the roof off" view). And the Lab view looks to be a concept art... but the Earth screen is coming. You know they're holding back on that one because it's so iconic!
My biggest question is- will this be a disk game or an XBLA game? I could see either, but I'd be more comfortable with it being released digitally.

I wouldn't generalise like that. I'm sure just as many pc gamers doesn't know the original game either. If you went to some lanparty i guess there's mostly teens playing pc games, and maybe just 2-3 games. Myself (and most of my friends) now play mostly on consoles, but we've all had C64 in the 80's, Amiga's till mid 90's and pc's and consoles since then.
