Please Make A Proper Component vs. HDMI Comparison

Hello everyone, I would like to suggest that you make a Component vs. HDMI Comparison video, similar to how to made the Assassin Creed video and showed the Xbox 360 version against the Playstation 3 version.

Some people may know that recently another website did a similar video compairing the 2 types of video signals but it was done poorly with a thick black bar in the center making the comparison harder to tell the differences and also used there poor compression quality on the video which made it even harder to tell. Gamersyde videos are far superior in quality and i believe the team here can made a video to properly show the differences.

My suggestion would be to use Assassins Creed on the PS3 system using the component cables and compair it with its HDMI enabling the "Full RGB" and "Super White" in the settings for the PS3.

Also if this was idea was already discussed on the forum i'd like to apologize for making another thread with the same topic. Thanks for your time and keep up the great work.

It`ll just prove that HDMI is slighty better IMO.....slightly !!!. Crisper visuals to some degree, but that`s just down to it`s digital side I suppose. Also, I find that there is less `bleeding` in rich colours such as reds, blue`s etc, but remember that HDMI drains away the default colour a bit aswell, but after some tweaking it`s back to it`s good old self again.

Also, 1080p can be done via component, so the comparison `must` be done with a true 1080p signal too, as 720p wouldn`t give any visual difference (or not as much as 1080p would anyhow).

In my opinion, the difference is minor, but essential if you`re a serious graphical whore lol, but it`s not worth changing your tv to get hdmi inputs. No amaout of visual crispness is worth you spending £800 + on a large 1080p set unless you just `need it like a drug`.

If you watch this (probably best to download it) where the boat fight is taking place near the start you can see a pretty noticable colour difference, te component one is more pinky looking than that HDMI one.

It's one of those things that is very slubtle and human eye sight isn't very good at distinguishing between colours anyway.

Frosty how does HDMI drain colour away? thats probably your TV set, do you have an expand colour mode on your TV ?

The obvious thing you will notice with the full RGB mode is a jump in contrast, colour differences will be hard to spot though.

That video from gametrailers suffers from poor compression that they use in order to make it possible for people to stream the video.

This image is from the video and you can tell it looks a bit clear, but its still hard to notice due to the quality of the video

What does compression have to do with colour space ?

Many people are misinformed that full RGB will provide better detail, it doesn't, it produces better colour and higher contrast.

It is also depends on what colour bitrate (ie 8/12 bit per channel) the capture device records in as this will effect the video quality.

Either way it makes little difference, if you have HDMI then that is the best choice.

However if your TV set has superior analogue circuity than it does digital, component could end up looking better.

Full RGB is more use in movies than Video games as the later doesn't use real world (natrual) colours.

ok Jollipop, excuse me if i misunderstood your question but i do think that everything you said was correct, like you said it makes little difference but between the 2, but HDMI is the better choice. From reading everything, you certainly seem to have a better grasp on the different concepts than i do.

I do however believe that the digital picture you get from the HDMI port will slightly better than that of the analogue Component cables. Its certainly not going to be a vast improvement.

What i was saying tho is that the comparison video from gametrailers website is done in with a lower bitrate (poor compression) just like the rest of there videos making it even harder to tell in the comparison.

A good way to show the compression differences between HD video from GameTrailers website versus a HD video from Gamersyde is to download both theses videos and see for yourself. They are the exact same trailer and you should be able to make out the larger amount of artifacts present in the GameTrailers video compaired to the Gamersyde video.

Gamersyde videos give a much more accurate representation of what game looked like, and its 1 of the major reason why Gamersyde is superior.

Isn't that kinda impossible to do? You are viewing a comparison through either VGA or DVI (I presume). Does that not effect this? I'd have thought that the only way of seeing a true comparison is by doing it yourself.
