That is quite a compliment. Ravenholm is one of the greatest levels ever.
Ravenholm might be the best level ever. It's the best level in Half Life 2.

WE DON'T GO TO RAVENHOLM.

The one factor that makes Skorge so “Badass” is that he’s wielding a Staff, but it’s not any old Staff... Cliff confirmed that Skorge’s main weapon in the game is infact a Dual Chainsaw staff, which we saw Dizzie chainsaw duelling against in the first Act. We really don’t have to explain how badass it is, seeing as there will be thousands of different awesome scenarios running through your head right now.

We confirmed in our Interview with Cliff that the rumors posted on Xbox360Fanboy were in fact true. Skorge is a playable [But majorly scaled down from the campaign] character in Gears of War 2’s Multiplayer. While we were playing Horde, we also got talking with SixOkay [Microsoft Community Manager]. I asked him about Skorge being in Horde, and he confirmed that Skorge will be the last enemy you face at Level 50 [Oh...My...God.....SWEET!].

In Horde, there are mini “Skorge-lings” that we weren’t supposed to be fighting against, however we imagine these are the spawn of Skorge [I’m sure we’ll be given some more details on these closer to launch]. As you can see from the images and the description, Skorge is truly a worthy replacement for General RAAM. His badass “Predator” looks, his size and his Dual Chainsaw staff are enough to give anyone a messy nerdgasm.

Let us know what you think of him, as we’ve been extatic about making this announcement for over a week now! [Closer look at his staff below!]

Man Horde mode seems to own.
But oh, how wrong we were. We'll level with you right now, Gears Of War 2's new Horde mode is affrontingly addictive. It's one of those "It's so simple, why wasn't it done years ago?" ideas, taking the basic team deathmatch and putting all the players on one side against ever-increasing CPU odds. Imagine Smash TV trapped in the body of Marcus Fenix and you've pretty much got it. Your squad of five human players is dropped into a multiplayer map and given a few seconds to fan out and take position. Then a wave of Locust will come in from the edges of the arena and you'll take them out as a team.

And then the next, tougher wave will come in and you'll do the same again. Indefinitely, until you die. And then you'll hit "Continue" again and again until it's 3 A.M. and you can't focus on the screen any more.

It's the little nuances that do it. Rather than just getting tougher or increasing in number, each Locust wave evolves the way your team has to play and forces a fresh set of tactics. It'll start out innocently enough, with only a few grunts and maybe a couple of Boomers to deal with, but by the time Gears 2's new Locust start being thrown into the fray your crew will be thinking on their toes, rethinking their weaponry and replanning their tactics with every new configuration of opposition. It's exhilarating, requires total focus and adaptability, and doesn't let up for a second.

Then there's the way the game handles player death. Only one player has to survive through a wave in order to earn the entire team a respawn in the next round. As such, the sense of cameraderie is intoxicating, as dead players watch their sole remaining team-mate battle on against immense odds, screaming encouragement for his Arnie-style, one-man stand to meet with success and pull them all through.
And the way that eliminated players can watch the match through wide-angled, controllable cameras or patrol the battlefield in a first-person "ghost" view means that the team is never really broken up. Dead comrades are always able to look out for new threats and yell tactical advice and advanced warnings to their man. Heroes can be made in every round of Horde, but it never happens without the help of their fallen squad.
Rest here.

@Acert,

Of all the people you say that? I guess there COULD be a downgrade, but the fact that you are using the E3 trailer as a sign of what it looked before is disappointing to say the least. That E3 trailer goes along the same lines that the "mad world" trailer for Gears 1 went.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccWrbGEFgI8

It's not even a real cutscene, but should I even tell you that?

Then you give the announcement trailer along with an off-screen video.....which again disappoints, specially considering there is an "HD" direct feed of that......somewhere, but if that is your reference-----well.

You give what looks to be very perfectly fitting technical explanation, but then you say this: "The MP shots have had AO disabled for a while and the new shots appear to have it disabled in a number of areas as well (the Locust cave may be the exception, but the lighting/shadowing are probably backed into the environment so it would be difficult to identify here without seeing it in motion)."

So we know that MP is more often than not not the same graphics quality that we get in SP, this holds true for the vast majority of games, if not all--so this one is kind of irrelevant because it is entirely possible they could have downgraded some things for MP.

But you also say that the new shots "appear" to have AO disabled in "a number of areas" which is as vague as it gets.

But again, I'm NOT saying there wasn't a downgrade, but what seem to be your sources and some of your comments seem like jumping to conclusions a little early.

And you know I'm critical with graphics, but I see the first gameplay and see the latest gameplay, it looks the same to me, in places--and because of it being a different level--it even looks better to me. So let's say they got rid of AO completely which technically makes it a downgrade........I say, who cares! This is not like an already bad looking game looking worse (Forza), this is one of the best--if not the best--looking console games ever.

I always spoil a big part of the excitement of a new game by watching too much footage. This time I am going to avoid as much media as possible.

Ditto. Shame really.

I wasn't into gaming websites that much at the time of Gears of War and because of that I never saw any footage of the game prior to release. In fact, the only reason I ever bought Gears of War was because of the 'Mad World' advert - the one and only time I have ever bought a game because of its advert.

But now, I pretty much spoil every game I ever plan to buy because I watch too much footage of it. I shouldn't, but I just can't help it.

Nice.
Gamers who buy a new copy of Gears of War 2 will find a special treat -- a redeemable voucher for a free "Flashback" downloadable map pack. Cashing in the voucher over Xbox Live will grant you a free download of five classic (and visually enhanced) multiplayer maps from the original Gears of War: Canals, Gridlock, Mansion, Subway, and Train Station. This brings the total multiplayer map count to 15. The Flashback Map Pack voucher is only included with new copies of Gears of War 2; used versions will obviously be missing the voucher. The download is planned to go live on November 7th, Gears of War 2's launch date.

Furthermore, in addition to the gold-plated Lancer being offered with the Limited Edition Gears of War 2, Epic recently revealed to GamePro that a gold-plated Hammerburst assault rifle will also be available. In order to unlock the gold-plated Hammerburst, fans will need to participated in "Midnight Madness" launch events taking place around the country on the night of November 6th. Players will be able to earn both the golden Lancer and the golden Hammerburst by meeting both requirements.

It's cool to be able to get the old maps via download. But they shouldn't have put in Tyro Station and gone for War Machine instead, that's one of the better maps, imo the best.
