Final Fantasy XIII announced for Xbox 360?!! Talk about random!

There's apparently a big feature article in the upcoming issue of Japanese gaming mag Famitsu that talks Square Enix, Final Fantasy XIII and all that jazz. While scans haven't hit the internet yet, we've heard from several trusted insiders who have seen the yet-unreleased issue. It mentions that FFXIII is going to be out in Japan by next summer and in Europe/USA on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 by the end of 2009 — which pretty much what we already know.

Here's the juicy bit: According to the Famitsu piece, Microsoft is footing the bill for Square Enix's FFXIII breach of PS3 exclusivity contract. No idea how much money that entails or the exact deal Microsoft worked out with Square Enix, but the fact there is not Xbox 360 version announced for Japan is telling. Square Enix does state how porting the game to the Xbox 360 should be easy.

More interesting tidbits: It's apparently hard to tell which looks better: Star Ocean 4 or Final Fantasy XIII. Also, the company plans to focus more on PSP game development from now on. File this as rumor until proper scans surface.

I honestly expected this to be the case. Star Ocean 4 really does look unbelievable.

Out in USA in 2009!!? Don't mess with me man! That would be crazy if true lol. Holy crap at Microsoft paying for the breach of contract. They really went all out.

Either way, I still suspect that Star Ocean 4 will be a graphical equal to FFXIII.

I expect FF13 to make Q4 2009 TBH, I would imagine the JP version is probably 6 months away, SE said they are now starting voice work in one of their recent interviews, which suggest to me its nearing completion.

Well if the Japanese version gets a english text option (unlikely) just order the PS3 version from Japan, simple.
If you can handle Japanese language and text well it's good, if not...then yes, the wait is too much.

They all kinda look like they could be ingame, but without better images its hard to be sure either way, it doesnt like like cg but that could just be bacause the image quality is so poor.

Well even Devil May Cry and Resident Evil 5 looked that good at certain points. Square will, of course, make a graphically impressive game.

Oh i have no doubt that FFXIII will look great, i just feel inclined to doubt that any of the media we've seen so far is actually in-game, particularly when compared to the other games that SE are getting out now. Just look at Last remnant or Infinite undiscovery. They are nowhere near this. Though, like someone said earlier, the crap quality of the scans might be deceiving as well.

Just look at Last remnant or Infinite undiscovery. They are nowhere near this. Though, like someone said earlier, the crap quality of the scans might be deceiving as well.

Neither Last Remnant nor Infinite Undiscovery are representative of games that are on Square's Crystal Tools game engine.

Infinite Undiscovery isn't even being developed internally at Square. It's being made by Tri-Ace and Last Remnant is an Unreal III engine title that is getting a version made for the pc, ps3 and 360 by what I assume to is not even one of Square's top internal teams. So no Square title you've seen yet is at all an indication of what they will achieve with FFXIII.

And if we're talking about graphically impressive Square Enix published titles we've seen so far then look no further than Star Ocean 4, which looks absolutely exceptional. That game is also made by Tri-Ace, but looking at Star Ocean 4, I honestly don't see how what we are seeing in those scans is an unachievable thing.

I also wouldn't be so quick to judge Infinite Undiscovery visually. It probably won't look as good as FFXIII or even Star Ocean 4, but I still have a very strong feeling that Infinite Undiscovery is being so heavily underestimated from a graphical standpoint that people are going to be surprised as to how good it really looks when it comes out and they have an opportunity to see it in motion on their HDTVs.

haha yea it's something I've been saying since like the first week I signed up on this site :P

Still it's 100% true. Games simply look so much better when you are looking at them on a nice HDTV as opposed to on crappy pc monitor like I have here.

I can't honestly have been the only person to look at the latest IU trailer on Xbox Live on my HDTV. The game looks so much better than it does in screens or even when I watch videos on my pc. Especially the scene when they first start showing Capel riding on Gustav's back and the gameplay that follows with them running in the desert with the sand storms and a lot of the other stuff.

When you stop and let it really sink in that this is a j-rpg and not any other kind of game, it really is an awesome thing. :)

Depends how crappy your PC monitor is I suppose, my HDTV is my pc monitor so it looks the same to me.

same here. my monitor can throw out better resolutions, but it lacks the contrast and general settings and controls my HDTV has. so games generally look a lot better on my HDTV then they ever did on my monitor.
