Good christ...I'm not complaining about it. I was merely wondering why spending god knows how long to install a game to improve load times(that already aren't that bad) was constantly considered a negative on the PS3, and now because we have the option of doing it if we want, it's all of a sudden a positive thing? It being OPTIONAL is moot.

My dvd drive is loud, but I find it extremely easy to ignore; I literally have to try to notice it, so this aspect doesn't matter to me.

I'm mostly interested in if texture pop-in will be reduced. RAZ seems to think so, and if this is the case, I may just give Mass Effect another playthrough.
I definately see where you're coming from but the difference is that in this case, it's not compulsory to do it hence the reaction.

Installing a whole game...

Yeah would be nice if my freaking 20GB drive were't already chock full of stuff, and a replacement is a God awful price. MS, sell me a 120 GB drive for $60 and we'll talk... otherwise I could care less.

This proprietary BS that MS has jumped on this generation sucks. Sony finally did it right and lets you put your own Hard Drive in . One of my biggest pet peeves with MS obviously.

Depends where the bottleneck is really, if its the engine, this won't do much good (see Halo 2 on a 360), if the cap is the transfer speed from the disc to the memory then it should be improved as the seek/read times for the HDD are faster then the discs throughput.

As for copying it's a little complex, on a modded Xbox 5GB could take about 5-10 minutes (4VD) so reasonably around 7GB for a full 360 disc could be done in about 4-5 minutes (12x DVD) - heres the kicker though, not all games are created equal in their build...so size isn't always the factor

You could have a 6GB game in 6X 1GB pieces and be done in 5 minutes, but a 2GB game in 1500 pieces could take over an hour. It'll vary, sometimes in extreme cases.

^^ good post. Sums it up nicely. Games are generally optimised late on in the manufacturing process to run as efficiently as possible from disc media. This might not necessarily translate to a linear improvement when copying to the hard drive, though it'll never do them any harm.

Mass Effect will be one of those that take an age to transfer. Lots of little files. Back when the builds were 10GB+ I'd just leave it overnight!

I'm especially excited about the partysystem with upto 8 people in private chat, and the 16:10 support via VGA and HDMI.. It's about time I could play Xbox 360 games in the native resolution of the 22" LCD monitor I have it hooked upto (my PC monitor aswell), and could use private chat with more then just 1 person..

The install games on your harddrive feature is also pretty handy to get rid of the noisy DVD-drive spinning while playing..

Overall the consoles are becoming more & more like PC's.. And I mean that in a good way, they get more & more of it's very broad functionality.. And aslong as it's all an option and doesn't take away from the console's ease of use (put in disc and play), it's all good..

Only 1 question remains, when will we see these new features? They are saying they will show us more over the coming months, which indicates they are still way off from being implemented.. So I presume we will not see them any time soon.. Somewhere just before Christmas 2008 probably..

Fall always seems to slip until later than you would think. I think this will come later rather than sooner.

Free of charge? Lets hope. Is that likely though?

Yep, free of charge! No only that, it is advertiser supporter like real gameshows. That is how they are going to be offering real prizes to the contestants.

and it has a few things I noticed that were absent as well... how about that Direct TV deal and IPTV deal announced a couple years ago?? Alan Wake anybody??

Missing in Action from the Xbox E3 Keynote?
>> From blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com:
There were a few big things that didn't make the keynote. There still are two big shows for the rest of the year and we might see these at at Penny Arcade Expo in August or Tokyo Game Show in October.

1. Newton : The motion sensitive controller was not shown. It's still a real project that they are working on but perhaps the hardware or games were not ready to be shown

2. Halo Wars : Not only did it get pushed back to 2009 but it did not make they keynote

3. Frankie and Peter Jackson's Halo Chronicles : The Microsoft run project didn't have make a peep.

4. Alan Wake : The Microsoft game studio action horror game was completely absent. That is not a good sign.

5. Blu-Ray : I am starting to think that they might be telling the truth when they say that they have no plans to make a Blu-Ray player for the Xbox 360.

6. IPTV : Sure there was new video parters and streaming Netflix but their previously promise of digital TV via the Xbox 360 and Internet was not there.

IPTV is already out, what is there to talk about? It comes via a provider. The only people who are desperately waiting to see something at the keynote are people who don't understand what it is.

"Newton" is not anything that's ever been announced. How many times do they have to say they're not making a blu-ray drive before people drop it?

IPTV may be out, but in incredibly limited availability (FIOS isn't even offering IPTV) and so far as I know, there's none of the suggested 360-set-top bundles being offered anywhere.. nor have we seen the Xbox 360 IPTV interface anywhere, since it was originally demoed. Microsoft has a lot invested in IPTV, it wouldn't hurt for them to continue to hype the platform.

or is it to those already subscribers to netflix only?

They most certainly did not say that. They said it was free to anyone with both subscriptions. It's a service that Netflix already provides over the internet to PC's and their own set top boxes. It's not the most mind blowing selection of titles, either.. but their on demand library of titles does continue to grow, and they've hinted at the possibility of HD streaming content in the future.

What studios are going to give away 10,000 titles for free? Come on now.. reality check.

It was said before E3 that Alan Wake wont be there. Also Max Payne was long in the development too. I wouldn't be worried.

The Xbox software has libraries built within to access MP from within games, it's only Rock Band to my knowledge who's implemented anything like that mind.

But it's certainly possible.

Yeah but that's done only to access the songs related to the game I presume like it's done in other games like Oblivion, ninja Gaiden, Naruto etc i.e. Access content related to the game ... you cant access ALL what's available on the marketplace though i.e. browse it in total freedom hence my question.

It looks like the new Guide allows you to browse the ENTIRE market place from within ingame it seems. I really need a confirmation of this. I think this is pretty huge! I would be VERY nice if possible, you can launch downloads from within ingame.
