Is it me or is this franchise going away from it's roots... I mean the first two Resi's were real survival horror games, including puzzle's, minimal amount of ammo and it had the great ability to instill fear in the player (either by it's setting/monsters or by the way you would feel helpless in certain situations (only 4 bullets left and 5 zombies coming at you)). I didn't play Resi3 or 4 but I did play Resi5 and that felt like a more action orientated game (loved it non-the less and played it co-op with a friend) and less horror survival orientated.

It's not that I don't like action games, it's just that I kind of miss the suspense from the older games...

RE4 was just a shooter, it's a shooter series now and you need to move on.

tbh, even RESI2 was more action game then survival horror. but as you said, it at least had quieter moments to take in the atmosphere and story, and had puzzles to break up the monotony of combat, exploration, items to find and limited ammo. it's THAT which i miss most. i wouldnt mind the locked, clunky shoulder camera and controls if it still had those things, but it doesnt. the puzzles are easy, keys are often found in the same room as the door that needs opening, no exploration, no atmosphere, no sense of fear and more ammo then you actually need. it's turned into a stright up action series with controls that can't keep up.

it's a shame the series has moved in this direction. action shooters are a dime a dozen, and i find it hard to get excited by yet ANOTHER one.

yeah.

Perhaps skipping 4 is a factor?

Personally, I would be thinking the same as you, had I skipped 4 and started with 5.

Its because 4 was so good en changed RE in, what I deem to be a right direction.

Though we must not ignore the facts here. Capcom wants to make money. Catering the fans wont cut it.

So Im 100% sure that they want to give us fans the old skool Resi game, but they know they cant.

That would mean they wouldnt make enough money out of it, to justify the resource that went into it.

Dont forget that Revelations coming out next week, will be that fan-service Resi game everyones been waiting for.
If that sells well...I am certain they will continue that trend. If not? then you get my point ;)

Resi 5 was to me, the worst one in the series, but it had the best sells of them all.

Im happy I can play all of them and love em for what they are instead of what they're not.

So long as they are god game i don't care what genre it is. I mean i love RE1, but i also think RE4 was a fantastic game. When it starts grinding my gears is when we get half assed shit like RE5 that just rehashes RE4 but with a retarded story and no atmosphere. And the Crapcom brand on-disc DLC :P

Bu i can see why people miss the old type survival horor seeing as how it's pretty much extinct by now.

I loved RE5. I replayed it on all difficulties, unlocked everything, and put some time into the crappy multiplayer. I'm going to enjoy the shit out of RE6, providing the AI can't get itself into a no win scenario, or stuck in a trap and die. I liked RE4's open world aspects, but it did allow you to get to a point where you f'ed up and had no good ammo. I probably will avoid Operation Raccoon City now.

This looks so awesome, Capcom never seems to dissapoint me. RE5 was brilliant and this looks better in every way. This is the first game to get me excited in a very long time, i cant wait!!

Partly true, RE4 did have some problem solving and puzzles but your pretty much correct thats its just a shooter series now.

Every dev knows there is money to be made from dude-bro shooters, next gen will only have one genre of games and it will be shooters.

Totally agree.

The whole bro-dude stuff is because people watch a three min. trailer containing Chris and co.

The devs said that its a game focused on horror and some bits of action. As in more horror than action.

It wont be over the top action from beginning to end as with RE5.

Personally I dont mind the action. I love BOTH the horror and the action parts in Resi games.

Its how its presented and done which makes the difference.

Again funny how so called fans (no one here in particular) are raging on about the 'change'. Yet they are not buying Revelations.

Suits them right. I hope Capcom continues this trend of catering the market instead of listening to whining fans, who are least but supportive when it comes to buying a resi game that DOES suit their desire.
